I have only had this seat installed for about two weeks or so, but I'm already thinking that perhaps I would have been better off with another. My daughter is 7 months old now, and she is long for her age, but weight-wise she is average. Here are the cons of the seat that I have experienced so far:

We purchased this car seat as an extra to be used by her care giver and for travel as is lighter weight than our other one.
We were on a trip over the holidays this year and involved in a very severe head on car accident.
My almost 2 year old daughter walked away with a tiny bruise on her chest/neck from the strap (my one complaint about comfort with this seat is it has no cloth gaurd for the straps at the neck line) and was playing with my brother's dog later that night while the rest of us (4 adults with seat belts) were in critical to severe condition and in the hospital for many days.
I am purchasing another one to replace and can say from experience this seat did it's job!
Always be sure your kids are correctly in their seats!!!!

I have only had this seat installed for about two weeks or so, but I'm already thinking that perhaps I would have been better off with another. My daughter is 7 months old now, and she is long for her age, but weight-wise she is average. Here are the cons of the seat that I have experienced so far:

1) The seatbelt buckle point in the center is very nice and heavy duty, but the placement is awkward. When I fasten the leg belts over her thighs and into that buckle, I have to slide 2-3 fingers underneath to make sure that her skin doesn't get caught between the plastic pieces. The pieces that buckle are literally ~on~ her thighs, and easily pinch her when closing, if I don't prevent it.

2) The "reclining positions" are made possible by a swiveling plastic platform under the seat - you can either have the platform in the back or the front section. In my minivan, neither position looks very different in terms of angle of recline than the other. I've got a towel rolled up and placed under the front section for now - I may have to roll up another one as well to keep my daughter's head from continually falling forward when she naps.

3) I don't care for the layout of the instruction booklet. You have to look in three different places before you can fully understand how to adjust the entire buckling system around your child. It's not impossible to understand, but it's a pain.

Here is what I like about the seat:

1) The fabric is great, and the padding is well made. On the whole, the produce itself is of good quality workmanship.

2) Once you figure out how to follow the instructions for adjusting the seatbelt system, actually manipulating it is fairly easy. Other products require some wrestling to get the belts where you want them - this seat is fairly simple.

All in all, I would probably not buy this seat again, nor recommend it to others. But for the price, the produce is livable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good bargain, good car seat., July 18, 2010

We got this as a second car seat, and I'm satisfied with it for the price ($45) but if we had paid more I would have returned it.

My daughter seems comfortable in it, and I love that at 18mths she's only on the second of 4 shoulder strap settings and the first of 2 lap settings. It seems like it might have been too roomy if she had been much younger though.

Flaw #1: The cup holder is cheap and flimsy, and completely useless to us as the ring folds down when she tries to get her cup into it. I wouldn't trust a fast food cup in it at all.

Flaw #2: this is actually a major irritation to me - the big red release button for the harness takes 2-3 tries for both my husband and I to open, which gets old when you're running to several places and keep having to fight with it. Her other car seat manages to be difficult for her to press while easy for our thumbs to get it on the first try.

Flaw #3: there isn't a lot of room in the strap loosening space. I've got a cut on the top of my thumb from pulling it out too quickly.

Flaw #4: The most important flaw is that even when I put my knee in the seat with all my weight on it (over 180 pounds) and tighten the anchors as much as I can it still lifts off the seat. It's good and steady when shaken side to side, but there is a disturbing amount of give when I lift the front. I've installed many car seats without this being a problem, but am concerned enough that I am taking this one to be inspected.
*This issue stayed as long as I had that car, but in comments another reviewer explained that this isn't a big problem. When I bought a minivan it became a non-issue because the bench seating allowed the seat to settle better.

For the most part these are minor flaws, mostly irritations rather than actual problems, and this is a great car seat. My daughter doesn't complain when she's in it or show any signs of discomfort.

Especially considering the price it is a great deal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Evenflo Tribute 5 Kristy: Love this Carseat!!, March 3, 2011

This review is from: Evenflo Tribute 5 Convertible Car Seat, Kristy (Baby Product)
When I began my search for a convertible carseat, I was looking for a carseat that would grow with my 9 month old little girl and be comfortable for her and also wouldn't take up the entire backseat of my 2000 Mercury Sable and without costiing a fortune. The package arrived safely and on time, the box was in excellent condition and had a plastic wrap covering the carseat itself. As soon as my husband took it out of the box our little one climbed onto it and sat down as if to say "yup i like this one guys". My car doesn't have the LATCH system in it, but a shoulder belt seems to work just fine and doesn't slide at all. We have it in the forward facing recline position and it was very easy to install. The soft material is very easy to clean and comes off if you need to wash it and it doesn't seem to absorb much heat(and we live in TX) The chest buckle is a little difficult to detach, but with practice it becomes a breeze; and why would you want a chest buckle to be easy to unlatch? The cup holder is a little flimsy but it serves its purpose, a previous comment said it wouldnt hold a fast food cup, but I don't think a small child should need one anyway, very big mess hazard. Overall my husband and I love this carseat super-easy to switch from car to car and it's very light, Totally worth the money. Hope this is helpful to anyone looking at purchasing this carseat!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect car seat for travel!, January 15, 2011

This has been a perfect travel/back-up car seat for us - installation is a piece of cake so moving it from car to car is no problem and it's light enough that I'm able to carry it through an airport without a roller bag. It's also super easy to clean, as all the upholstery can be easily removed in one piece.
My 18 month old is tall for her age and seems fairly comfortable in it, though it is significantly less padded than her everyday car seat...
All in all I think this is a good car seat for the price.

2.0 out of 5 stars Chest clip VERY hard to use, January 19, 2011

We really wanted to keep this car seat. Loved the color and size , but found the chest clip tremendously difficult to use. We currently have two Graco car seats (snugride 32 and a convertible to 65 lbs model) and both are easy enough to open with two hands.

The Evenflo is EXTREMELY difficult to open. There's a button that must be depressed enough to get under the plastic clip, so it's a matter of pressing and holding and sliding all at the same time. Add to that some tugging and grunting and you can imagine how well this woudl play out with a frustrated toddler in there.

I latched and unlatched it 20 times and decided it just wasn't worth it. We won't even install ... it's going back.

I love the purple color!! Seems to be a very comfy seat, I am currently using it in the rear facing position for my 6 month old daughter. Easy to get baby in and out of seat.

Love this car seat! I bought this for my granddaughter. I love the color and the 2 position recline. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who does not want to spend a fortune on car seats!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Seat, April 7, 2011
This review is from: Evenflo Tribute 5 Convertible Car Seat, Kristy (Baby Product)
We have had this seat for 2 years now. It has held up well. We got it for my daughter when she turned 1yr. My only complaint is the cup holder did not last, which is too bad because my daughter can not reach any of the vehicles cup holders. Also, in the rear facing position you need to place a rolled up towel under the seat to get it to recline enough, but I do not feel this is a huge problem. I would buy the seat again.
