5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent -- and no one better to perform these songs!, July 12, 1999
By A Customer
Alan Lerner's light baritone is the perfect and most heartfelt voice for these clasic songs. Unexpectedly, my favorites on this album turned out to be those with which I was less familiar -- "Come Back to Me" and "What Did I Have" from "On a Clear Day..." He does have some amusing anecdotes about the creation of "My Fair Lady," and it was nice to finally hear the long-apocryphal "Come to the Ball" and the alternate lyrics for "The Street Where You Live". Lerner could have had his own entertaining caberet act, if this CD is any indication. He is amusing, profound, touching -- and occasionally corny, but always enchanting. A very enjoyable CD. Gripes: Well, I wish he'd used some of the wittier songs from "Camelot" instead of the ones he did select. And I wish someone would tell me if the similarities between "Follow Me" and "Come Back to Me" are real or imagined!!! Overall, quite delightful!!!
