5.0 out of 5 stars A romantic evening
Two of the worlds greatest vocalist come together in a quiet and soothing harmony of romance. Though sung in Greek (the Enlish translations are in an included booklet) the loving messages clearly come through. Listen to it twice and you'll be wanting more. Thankfully, you will be able to listen to it repeatedly once you have the CD.

3.0 out of 5 stars Belafonte and Mouskouri
This CD An Evening With Belafonte/Mouskouri appears to be a collection of 10 songs recorded in 1965. There are two duets, the others are individual songs. The songs are sweet but interesting. Nana is good, but Belafonte's forte is elsewhere

5.0 out of 5 stars Two classic artists together., March 13, 2007

In my hotel in Paris circa 1970 I heard a great duet, Mouskouri (whom I hadn't heard of yet)and Belafonte. I caught a few bars on my Dictaphone and that evening the clerk at a record store on the Camps Elyses identified the album for me. I wore out my vinyl over the years and was pleased to find it on CD. If you are thirsty...great marriage of voices!

4.0 out of 5 stars A little gem, May 29, 2009

A little gem

This album will appeal to all fans of Nana Mouskouri's early recordings. She recorded this album with Harry Belafonte as a result of their successful college tours of the United States and Canada. All of the songs will be known by Nana's fans. The songs are shared between Nana and Harry. They sing two together and four each individually. The songs are named in English with the anglicised Greek name underneath. Eight are compositions by the great Greek composer Manos Hadjidakis who, along with Nana, created a whole new body of contemporary music based on Greek folklore.
It is interesting to compare, for example, the track entitled "Dream", (otherwise better known as Odos Oniron) with Nana's subsequent recordings of this song, especially the live recording on the album "Recital 70" at the Olympia, Paris. It is one of my favourite Hadjidakis compositions that Nana sings, and this arrangement is accompanied by sizzling bouzouki strings. Nana's excellent accompanist is George Petsilas, her former husband.

I like Nana Mouskouri's voice above that of Harry Belafonte's, because I've always been a Nana fan, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate Harry's singing here. The song "If you are thirsty" is one of the two duets on the album and is really beautiful to listen to.
If you are a fan of Nana Mouskouri then you'll want to own this album - I've had it for years as an LP (but only in Mono) so it was nice to hear it in stereo at last.
This is my first ever attempt at a review so I hope it will be helpful. I could have said more about some of the other songs and the different versions available on later albums by Nana Mouskouri, but thought I'd leave it at this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reel to Reel Revisited, August 21, 2006

I loved the original in reel to reel about 40 some years ago. the different style for Harry was what first drew me. The inclusion of Nana, and all in another language, make this a CD to quietly enjoy. I loved the passion and feeling in each selection.

I enjoy both singers, especially Harry Belafonte. My mom had this album as a 78 and I couldn't listen. Now that it's a CD I play it every day. 73QTYM9DKM27

This is one of the best duet albums I have ever heard. Belafonte and Mouskouri caress the music and the results are truly heart rending in their beauty. I have listened to this CD repeatedly since purchasing it and cannot get enought of it. The music and the voices are just so soothing and soul nourishing. A joy!!!

This album is a treasure because of the early songs of Nana Mouskouri with one of her American friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars What are some of the titles of songs on the CD?, June 16, 2001

Question: How do you write a review on a Musical CD that does not list the titles of some of the Music? I'd love to know what is on the CD. I would have to rate this CD only on the 2 people involved in the singing. Belafonte and Mouskouri are fantastic in their own right.
