Editorial Reviews

An Evening in Concert presents a typical concert with the Army Blues Jazz Ensemble, a band noted for its wide range of jazz styles, carefully selected to appeal to jazz enthusiasts of all kinds. Many of the concerts include appearances by guest performers, and this delightful album is no exception. This album features a track titled "The Made Man", performed by Louie Bellson, an extraordinary percussionist, composer, and jazz drummer. Bellson has played with the U.S. Army Band, Duke Ellington, his late wife Pearl Bailey, and a list of other jazz greats. In addition to "The Made Man", the album also includes "Everyday I Have the Blues", "Intimacy of the Blues" and "Moonlight in Vermont" among many others. Directed by Chief Warrant Officer Michael M. Walker, the Army Blues Jazz Ensemble is comprised of some of the finest musicians in the country. Each artist plays with a wealth of talent, creative energy and versatility, all of which have made the Blues Ensemble a dynamic and vital voice in music today.

Though the army blues come a little late to the military band scene, you'll
appreciate their contemporary sound. They only got started in the 1970's but
they have added their name to the list of great US military bands.
This album has some killer tracks including Everyday I Have the Blues which
is great when you've got the blues or not. If you love military music but
are looking for something a little more laid back and fun this album is for
you. Jazz fans will enjoy the new take on these well known tunes. Patriotic
music lovers will also enjoy that they are performed by brave men in
uniform. The Army blues is one of the few professional big bands till
working in the world today. So by this album and put it on when you have the
blues. If your in a good mood put it on and be happy you don't have the
blues.
