5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, November 9, 1999
By A Customer
This recording truly puts you in the holiday spirit. David Maddux's arrangements are like a dream. The blend of the voices is perfect, and the overdubbing makes it sound like an entire choir instead of just four people. The guest soloists are great as well. I particularly enjoy Cynthia Clawson's number, and the way she soars on "While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks". I very definitely recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A capella excellence!, March 6, 2000

I have never before heard such brilliance and precision in harmony. The vocal arrangements and the vocalists who delivered the same were excellent. This album truly blessed me and David Maddux is to be commended for his musicianship. The singers also. This album is like a capella heaven!

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvelous harmonies, December 24, 1999
By A Customer
If you like a capella music, you can't go wrong with this album. Lyrical, lively, at times haunting, and always beautifully harmonized. "Tennessee Christmas" alone is worth the album--but every song is lovely. A mix of sacred and light secular songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably the best Christmas album ever created, December 31, 2007
I've listened to both volumes of "An Evening in December" many times... MANY. Maybe I'm biased toward this album because I heard it first but I prefer it to Vol 1... and I don't want to take ANYTHING away from Vol 1. If you want an album you can put in the CD player and let it play all day while you visit with friends and family or put up Christmas decorations... this is it! It never grows old.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Christmas CD In My Collection, November 30, 2006
The Christmas season just wouldn't be complete without listening to this set of acappella Christmas songs by First Call. David Maddux is a genius and has created some of the most beautiful harmonies I've heard on ANY voice music. I often loop them and listen for hours.

There is a printed book with all the sheet music if you want to follow along or try for your group. I was in a fairly talented singing group and we started in June to work up some of the intricate harmonies by December, some of them in 13 parts! I can definitely appreciate First Call for their performance. There are special guests singing some of the songs too.

I couldn't find this CD for the longest time. In 2005 they released it again with a different cover having the members of First Call on the front cover. Same music just a different cover so if you can't find this one, search for the 2005 release. I highly recommend both Volumes 1 & 2.
