5.0 out of 5 stars Not what I was expecting but still a dope album, November 4, 2005
By
This review is from: Evening With the Sound Providers (Audio CD)
I picked this up at the local record store after I saw that it had Asheru on one of the tracks I popped it in my CD player in the car and as I was skimming through the tracks I noticed that over half of the album was instrumentals and only a small fraction of the beats had actual rapping. At first I was dissapointed but the instrumentals are done so well on this disc that they quickly grew on me and this CD has now reached a classic status with me like few other albums do. The music is a mixture of Pete Rock era Funk and jazz and soulful moody sound scapes that are perfect for listening to on a rainy day. The MCs are all on point and all have some very intereting and dope lines for you to listen to repeatedly I was so happy After hearing this album it is the perfect mixture of Hiphop and jazz styles it makes the perfect soundtrack for relaxing around the house or cruising in your ride. SP Have not put anything out for a minute, I hope that we see something from them in the near future Because we definitely need more talented hard working crews like this rocking the tables and the mic. P.S. If you are a fan of the sound providers be sure to check out the new Procussions album "As Iron Sharpens Iron"

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Music and Goood Rhymes, July 8, 2004

This album is why I continue listening to hip-hop. My top record of the year. The samples are tight, and the music harkens back to hip-hop's greatest period in my book.

I am all about jazz riffs and beats. Gangstarr, Tribe called Quest, De La Soul..all the good stuff. This album is tight, nothing that I wince while listening to, great all around.

I am going to chase down some of the guest artists on this one, they were uniformly at least good and some were great.

MAKE MORE MUSIC LIKE THIS!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Back to the roots of hiphop, August 27, 2004
This review is from: Evening With the Sound Providers (Audio CD)
The soundproviders, where do I start? This is THE ALBUM if you love those boom bap beats 'n jazzy vibes, that gives you the real hiphop feeling back from back in the days when pete rock,CL Smooth, De La Soul, ATCQ were doing there thing.

With 21 songs on it, 7 of them are skits with lovely beats on the background, another 7 are instrumentals with the same recept (with scratches and cuts in it), and another 7 songs are collaborations with emcees that are in my opinion very talented rappers who don't have to speak about bling bling, ca$h, cars and ho's to rap. ALL the songs on the album are great! I can tell you that it's not only the 5 samples that sounds great. The entire album includes that perfect music.
The album includes 59:30 minutes of pure pleasure music!

If there is coming up a spontaneous smile on your face when you here a boom bap beat show up after a little intro, hearing talented emcees over perfect beats, you HAVE TO buy this album. I think this is the best album that is released in 2004 so far.

Alright all of you Dig Planets, Tribe, and Gang Starr fans stand up!! The SPs have put together some classic material. The collabrations are just sick!! All of the songs are fly but I'm lovin the Little Brother & Asheru of Unspoken Heard contributions. Please support these cats. If you enjoyed music from any of those cats I mentioned earlier, you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars HOW DID I MISS THIS ALBUM, March 3, 2009
This review is from: Evening With the Sound Providers (Audio CD)
FOLKS I AM A SELF PROFESSED HIP HOP JUNKIE. BUT HOW I MISSED THIS ALBUM IS BEYOND ME. I HAD BEEN SEEING 5 STAR REVIEWS ABOUT THIS ALBUM AND SAID DAYUMM THIS ALBUM MUST BE MEAN. SO I ORDERED IT ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO AND GOT IT MONDAY. POPPED IT IN MY SURROUND DVD PLAYER AND I THINK I DONE PLAYED IT ABOUT 60 TIMES. THA ONLY MINOR THING AND LET ME REPEAT THAT MINOR THING IS THAT THERE ARE NOT MANY MCS ON THIS ALBUM. BUT THA PRODUCTION AND BEATS R SO TOP NOTCH IT DOESNT TAKE ANYTHING FROM THIS ALBUM. CHECK OUT WEE BEE FOOLISH IT WILL BEE ALRIGHT. CRAZY!!!!! I MEAN THIS WHOLE ALBUM IS BANGING THA GUESS MCS, R JUST THA INSTRUMENTALS. GOOD BACKGROUND MUSIC WHETHER U CHILLING WIT YA BOO, BY YASELF, CLEANING YA HOUSE, R JUST BEING LAZY LAYING BACK DOING NOTHING. I WISH I HAD NAS HOME ADDRESS SINCE HE THINK HIP-HOP IS DEAD. I WOULD SEND HIM THIS ALBUM. I WANT TO END THIS BY SAYING FOLKS TURN YA RADIO OFF AND STOP WATCHING 106TH AND PARK. HIP-HOP DOESNT LIVE IN THOSE 2 PLACES.

5.0 out of 5 stars one of my fav albums, October 17, 2006
By
This review is from: Evening With the Sound Providers (Audio CD)
First came across SP on this underground radio stream and had to get their music. Got it and it continues to be one of my fav group to this day. Their music is more of a jazz/hip hop mix but they pull it off really well. Really chill music that helps you relax or uplift your mood. Great for whenever you need to relax, calm down, or a rainy day. I recommend this album to anyone.
