4.0 out of 5 stars A Musical Feast
The Evening at Rao's CD is a perfect musical dinner companion when trying out the great Italian recipes in the award-winning cookbook by the same title. I've sent them as gifts and used my copies to kick start hosting some fun dinner parties. Brings back great childhood memories of family gathered around the dinner table.

3.0 out of 5 stars many fond memories
Listening to this collection of old songs brought me back to a much happier time , when life was simple and pure. Good food, good wine, and just the magic that music and love brings to the soul. A step back in time.......

4.0 out of 5 stars A great mix! Romantic and nostalgic., August 16, 1999
By A Customer
I'm listening as I write:

This new purchase has been the musical backdrop for my weekend, and I think I'm in love! Too bad my favorite isn't offered as a sample for you to hear: Scapricciatiello by Renzo Abore. Very passionate!

This would be a good choice for anyone who likes great music and isn't afraid of trying something different. Kind of like American Graffiti Went to Italy Via Motown.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Don't Have To Be Italian, March 7, 2000
By
You don't have to be Italian to enjoy this CD. It is a delightful potpurri of artists that epitomize the those songs familiar to those who are aroung 50 years of age. This CD is sonically brilliant. I wonder what process was used to enhance these orginal cuts? Louie Prima's rendition of Just a Gigilo jumps out of the speakers, practically forcing you to grab a partner and begin dancing across the living room floor. I highly recommend this CD.

Down in the dumps?? Feeling blue? Miss the old crew?
Order AN EVENING AT RAOS to brighten up your night.

Mt Carmel Feast with the smell of sauasage and peppers
cooked outdoors by Vincent Rao himself.
Remember the music coming from the jukebox? Tony Bennet,
the Platters, Dean Martin?
Talk about a TREASURE. There is a cut of Dion singing
"Sunday Kind of Love" rarely heard. Talk about harmony
Eyy fahgeddahboudit!!

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT NY ITALIAN / AMERICAN MUSIC SUMMARY, June 11, 1999
By A Customer
If you're an Italian/American New Yorker who is over 50 and you remember great American music of the 40's, 50's and 60's (with an Italian bias), this is your CD. This will bring back great memories.

This is one of my favorite discs to throw on while cooking or eating Italian. Some great tracks. You know most of them by heart and they spur all kinds of great memories from gangster movies and family gatherings from your youth (well at least my youth). I've never eaten at Rao's but I do love this CD!

A great collection of evening music. Except for Willie and Placido, there is not one wrong note with this collection. A great balance of early rock and roll with the Drifters, the Crests, and Dion linked with the great Italian love songs of Jerry Vale, Deano, and Modugno. Top it off with the likes of Astoria's own Tony Bennet and the absolute perfection of Al Hibler singing Unchained Melody, this is one great feast for the ears.
