5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect horror-CD that makes you climp on the walls...
I must admit that I wasn't looking for this CD when I went to the record-store. But, lucky as I am, I sam it in the corner of my view and now I am a happy 73 year old owner of this psycologically detstroying record. My guess is that I will have to see the movie too before I die. 3.0 out of 5 stars a truly scary score
I really enjoyed this movie. It is a great mix of horror and sci-fi, and the musical score is a great mix of techno and orchestra. Micheal Kamen is a good composer and Orbital is one of the top performers in the electronica genre. If you enjoyed the movie then you should definitely give the soundtrack a try. It's dark ambiance, complete with strange wispers and soft...

4.0 out of 5 stars exciting mix of orchestra and dance music, August 27, 2001
This is a very different soundtrack. I rate Michael Kamen's work as some of the best, and Orbital is a producers who's been around for years and knows his stuff inside out. The disc is made up of four tracks ranging between 4 mins and 13 mins in length. It is quite spooky in parts, mainly when Orbital's heavily effected drum loops break into the mix. It does add a new dimension to the whol thing, one minute your listening to a nice string section, the next these 909 kick drums and dance loops are interwoven into it. Very classy. My only gripe with this soundtrack is that by the time you reach the last track, its all starting to sound the same. The last (and shortest) track seems to sound more like an edited version of the first track as well. Apart from that, its an excellent and innovative soundtrack. It's a blend of two musical style that sit well with each other when done right, and is something that more composers should incorporate into the scores.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good, but not without some problems, July 3, 1999
By A Customer
This soundtrack is perhaps the best thing about an otherwise very ordinary film. However, in the same way that Event Horizon owes much to the William Gibson short story 'Hinterlands', the classical soundtrack owes much to James Horner's Aliens score. Which is not as sever a criticism as it may seem as Horner owed much to Holst's 'The Planets.'

What this soundtrack has going for it - the reason to purchase a copy - is the fusion of electronica and classical music in order to create a score that is different and exciting. As you listen, you are uncertain of the next direction the album will take. This is achieved by a sparing use of Orbital's contributions, that are laid over Kamen's solid score.

The CD only comprises of four tracks, b/w 4 and 13 minutes, that encompassing many different sections. This does force you to take the album as a whole - rather than chopping through tracks - which is certainly a pro. But if you are seeking that specific section as outlined by the sleeve notes you're in trouble.

On the whole the album leaves you wanting more - such is the restrained use of the electronic elements as provided by Orbital. This soundtrack is a must.

Aficionados should note that this is not the first time that a Paul Anderson film (Shopping, Mortal Combat, Soldier) has had an impressive soundtrack. Anderson is clearly a fan of electronic music. Orbital also provided a track on the soundtrack for Shopping.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wickedly warped, just like the film., October 25, 2003
By
Excellent mix of techno and classical orchestration. The mood of this disc almost beats out the film in the gloom catagory. A great recording to listen to when the lights are out, it's just plain scary music. MICHAEL KAMEN's best work (next to BAND OF BROTHERS), and when mixed with ORBITAL's electro-drums and a slew of haunting voices, tics, and beeps; makes for a rich, eerie sound environment for fans of the film and not. A great cd for those who really like scary stuff and cool, creeping tempos, EVENT HORIZON is a great soundtrack.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique fusion of classical and satanic rock, evil vocals, chanting, April 2, 2007
The soundtrack is like the movie. In the movie, a space ship disappears and returns 7 years later. But it is not the same. It now has a personality: PURE EVIL. The music is a big part of the the mood. It is a fusion of classical and satanic hard rock. There are vocals that sound like creepy chanting. The feeling is like a nightmare. The music slows down and speeds up, changes and is explosive toward the end of each track. There are four tracks about 12 minutes each. This is NOT a light CD! You will not be bored!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Movie Soundtrack Worth Buying, April 9, 2002
This review is from: Event Horizon (Audio CD)
I have bought many CDs based from movies, usually only to be disappointed. This one, however, does not. The mix of techno-beats, classical music and chilling chants will certainly give you goosebumps, if not freak you out. However, there is a problem. The CD is made up of four tracks in total, leaving you to fast forward a fair amount if you want to reach a certain part. Other than that, this is pretty solid. Even if you were only slightly interested in the film I would still recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Completely Brilliant!, February 16, 1999
By A Customer
I saw the movie Event Horizon, and I was so fascinated with the music in it that I actually went to the record store next day and bought the soundtrack. This soundtrack is a great mix of an orchestra-movie soundtrack and great Trip-Hop. When you listen to the soundtrack, you get this terrifying chill down your spine, and it happens every time you listen to it. This is simply magnificent music!

4.0 out of 5 stars Above average for a dance mix style soundtrack., March 3, 2003
By
Someone took the polar opposite contributions of Michael Kamen and Orbital and mixed them together. The result is a album that tries the recreate the feel of the movie, but is a mish-mash of cues that is hard to place in the mind's eye. The techno stuff does get the heart racing and, while I never have been a huge admirer of Michael Kamen (his stuff just sounds a bit bland to me), composing for this horror/sci-fi hybrid brought something interesting out of him. He should do projects like this more often. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Scary., November 24, 1999
By A Customer
This was the scariest movie I've ever seen. This is the scariest soundtrack I've ever heard. I like to play QuakeII and III online and this is the PERFECT soundtack for the game.

Only problem with the soundtrack: it's too short.
