GEG are my new favorite band.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Eventide (Audio CD)
I saw this band open up for Jonatha Brooke in Philadelphia, and dare I say they actually may have outstaged her. When I first saw the band, I was only familiar with "Better Part of Me" off of Painted Pictures, but they played about 6 songs from Eventide, which turns out is their best album. After the concert, they were out in the lobby selling copies of their albums, and I bought a copy of Eventide, which turns out to be one of my best finds. The band is really nice, they're really talented, and they a LOT of fun to see perform live.I've been lamenting the loss of October Project, and 10,000 Maniacs, and following the likes of Jonatha Brooke, so whenever another adult-oriented folk-alternative band with tremendous melodies, lyrics, and singing comes along, I applaud the return of quality music. There are really good bands out there, who rely on word-of-mouth to spread the word about how good they really are, and so I'm spreading the word on Grey Eye Glances: they are a REALLY good band, and this album Eventide is close to perfect. Jennifer Nobel has a great voice, and her band mates Dwayne Keith and Eric O'Dell are great musicians and great songwriters. I couldn't really list the highlights of this album, because they're ALL gems, but I want to put a plug in for "The Me You See" , "In the Company of You" and "The Passing of the Evening" as tremendous works, in addition to all of the other favorites listed by the other fans here.

I bought this CD on a whim...found them here on Amazon after reading reviews for October Project. I checked out their website and sampled songs from this CD.Wow. I have been listening to it fairly non-stop for the last few months. What a wonderful collection of songs. Comparable to October Project or Sara McClachlan, but more accessible. When I call them "pop," I mean that in the most positive way possible: catchy, fun and easy to sing with, and songs that remain with you long after they are done. However, GEG rises far above normal Top 40. Jennifer Nobel's voice is a powerful instrument unto itself, one she uses wisely and to great emotional effect, rather than simply belting out power choruses ala Whitney, Mariah or Celine. The music itself seems to breathe and grow with each song, sometimes jazzy, sometimes ethereal, sometimes foot-tappingly catchy. And the lyrics are fantastic. Instead of the normal, generic dreck offered by most pop groups, the lyrics here are intensely personal, literate and inventive. There are 13 songs on the CD (14, counting the "hidden" track). Of these, I consider 8 extremely strong tracks. The range of songs moves from bittersweet uptempo ("Hard") to chanting, Dream Academy-esque ("Days to Dusk") to moving, spare ballad ("Snow," a killer tune). Highly recommended for people who like catchy and infectious music coupled with intelligent, original lyrics with a dreamy, lush feel.

Quality songwriting combined with talented musicians,

This album is one of the highest quality albums I've ever heard. Not only are all of the songs well written and well performed, but they all mesh together into a fabulous whole. "Snow" was my favorite for several months, and then I got equally addicted to "Chills." You know an album is amazing when you just keep playing it over and over again until you have the entire thing memorized. The songs themselves are true genius, examples of poetry set to music that are unparalleled. If you like October Project or the Corrs, Grey Eye Glances has the same soaring quality and similarly lifting voices (that is probably the worst sentence ever written, but it's the best way I could convey the feeling accurately.)A superb experience that shouldn't be missed.
