5.0 out of 5 stars GEG are my new favorite band.
I saw this band open up for Jonatha Brooke in Philadelphia, and dare I say they actually may have outstaged her. When I first saw the band, I was only familiar with "Better Part of Me" off of Painted Pictures, but they played about 6 songs from Eventide, which turns out is their best album. 3.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant But Not October Project
Grey Eye Glances was recommended as another quality, alternative-pop band in the vein of October Project. Indeed, the music is pleasant and, after several listens, I have enjoyed the album but hardly place it on the same plane as the late October Project. The two band's ochestrations are comparable in range and quality. The repitore is interesting. "Snow" is...

5.0 out of 5 stars GEG are my new favorite band., December 10, 1999

I saw this band open up for Jonatha Brooke in Philadelphia, and dare I say they actually may have outstaged her. When I first saw the band, I was only familiar with "Better Part of Me" off of Painted Pictures, but they played about 6 songs from Eventide, which turns out is their best album. After the concert, they were out in the lobby selling copies of their albums, and I bought a copy of Eventide, which turns out to be one of my best finds. The band is really nice, they're really talented, and they a LOT of fun to see perform live.

I've been lamenting the loss of October Project, and 10,000 Maniacs, and following the likes of Jonatha Brooke, so whenever another adult-oriented folk-alternative band with tremendous melodies, lyrics, and singing comes along, I applaud the return of quality music. There are really good bands out there, who rely on word-of-mouth to spread the word about how good they really are, and so I'm spreading the word on Grey Eye Glances: they are a REALLY good band, and this album Eventide is close to perfect.

Jennifer Nobel has a great voice, and her band mates Dwayne Keith and Eric O'Dell are great musicians and great songwriters. I couldn't really list the highlights of this album, because they're ALL gems, but I want to put a plug in for "The Me You See" , "In the Company of You" and "The Passing of the Evening" as tremendous works, in addition to all of the other favorites listed by the other fans here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lush Alterna-Pop With Heart and Soul, June 19, 2000

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I bought this CD on a whim...found them here on Amazon after reading reviews for October Project. I checked out their website and sampled songs from this CD.

Wow.

I have been listening to it fairly non-stop for the last few months. What a wonderful collection of songs. Comparable to October Project or Sara McClachlan, but more accessible. When I call them "pop," I mean that in the most positive way possible: catchy, fun and easy to sing with, and songs that remain with you long after they are done.

However, GEG rises far above normal Top 40. Jennifer Nobel's voice is a powerful instrument unto itself, one she uses wisely and to great emotional effect, rather than simply belting out power choruses ala Whitney, Mariah or Celine. The music itself seems to breathe and grow with each song, sometimes jazzy, sometimes ethereal, sometimes foot-tappingly catchy. And the lyrics are fantastic. Instead of the normal, generic dreck offered by most pop groups, the lyrics here are intensely personal, literate and inventive.

There are 13 songs on the CD (14, counting the "hidden" track). Of these, I consider 8 extremely strong tracks. The range of songs moves from bittersweet uptempo ("Hard") to chanting, Dream Academy-esque ("Days to Dusk") to moving, spare ballad ("Snow," a killer tune).

Highly recommended for people who like catchy and infectious music coupled with intelligent, original lyrics with a dreamy, lush feel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality songwriting combined with talented musicians, November 24, 1999
This review is from: Eventide (Audio CD)
This album is one of the highest quality albums I've ever heard. Not only are all of the songs well written and well performed, but they all mesh together into a fabulous whole. "Snow" was my favorite for several months, and then I got equally addicted to "Chills." You know an album is amazing when you just keep playing it over and over again until you have the entire thing memorized. The songs themselves are true genius, examples of poetry set to music that are unparalleled. If you like October Project or the Corrs, Grey Eye Glances has the same soaring quality and similarly lifting voices (that is probably the worst sentence ever written, but it's the best way I could convey the feeling accurately.)A superb experience that shouldn't be missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great addition to my CD collection, September 2, 2003

The ethereal quality of this group is unbelieveable. I stumbled across them by mistake when I checked out one of their CDs at the local library because I liked the CD cover. I haven't been able to stop listening ever since. Eventide is a great CD for quite listening at home or driving. Their lyrics are not straight forward and take a while to digest and ponder. Their melodies and easy style make this one great alternative to the babble often passed off as music in today's culture.

I'd never heard of this group before, but after seeing all the great reviews I thought I'd give it a try. What a beautiful album! I've been listening to it non-stop since I got it. Jennifer Noble has a fabulous voice. I would definately recommend this to anyone who enjoys Sarah McLachlan or Enya, especially if you prefer to listen to artists who are not as well known. This was certainly a great find!

5.0 out of 5 stars My Absolute Favorite GEG Album, June 8, 2007
This review is from: Eventide (Audio CD)
This is my absolute favorite Grey Eye Glances album, as each song contains accessible lyrics and catchy tunes that convey a gamut of emotions. There are more melancholy songs such as "Snow" and "Days to Dust," but, at the same time, there are also upbeat songs such as "Halfway Back" and "Something To Live For". This is one of those albums that has a lot of substance and power to it. You empathize and sing along when you hear these songs--all the way to the end. For fans of this group, this is one of those albums that you put in a cd, hit repeat, and play for hours. If you have never heard Grey Eye Glances before, start with this album. Great stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't stop listening, December 30, 2004

This review is from: Eventide (Audio CD)
I'm hooked. Addicted. I hum it all day long. I bought this as a die hard October Project fan looking for something new. It's now a toss up between OP and GEG. The song Chills stays in my head all day. It's haunting, as is Angel and There. The CD starts off with Hard which has you you dancing in your seat in the car. The rest just sucks you in. I love the richness of Nobels voice and the lyrics that stop and make you think. It's my new favorite CD and I just can't stop playing it!

I've never bought a CD that I liked all the way through from the first play..until now.....GEG (Eventide) is a masterpiece that I cannot turn off..Every play of the CD evokes new emotions...I stumbled upon GEG while browsing Annie Haslam's (of Renaissance) site..She recommended GEG and if it comes from her..I thought they must be good...No disappointment here..I must say musically..lyrically top notch and vocally...the sound of an angel !! If you buy no other CDs this year.. do yourself a favor and get this one.. You won't regret it !!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful CD of Magical Music, October 29, 2001
By
John S "cockatiel1" (Albuquerque, NM United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eventide (Audio CD)
I wanted to try out some new music, so this was a lucky find on my part. And what a find it was! From the very first song, Jennifer Nobel's voice captivates your imagination, and the subtle harmony by her bandmates makes every song stand out. Very thoughtful lyrics, especially on the songs "Days to Dust" and "Something to Live For", makes this more than just an exercise in catchy pop. You get the feeling the songs mean much more than you might guess from a first listening, and you'll be reading the lyrics over and over to get the hidden meanings that seem to be in every tune. Truly a wonderful CD, I would highly recommend it for people who want to hear some romantic pop/rock music without the shmaltz that usually accompanies this particular genre.

Just as I thought that Sarah MacLachlan and Tara MacLean has the most angelic voice and most beautiful music, I've found Grey Eye Glances. All of their albums are great, and so is "Eventide"!
