Excellent introduction to atoms,

In reading this book to our daughter I finally understood the basics of atoms for the first time. Through high school and college the topic seemed so boring that I skimmed over it as much as possible. But this author makes it all exciting. Our daughter and I both really enjoyed it and learned a lot.

A difficult topic made easy for children,

One doesn't often find books with the explanatory power that this one has for children. Unlike most commercial "science" books this book does much more than the typical glossy presentation of disconnected factoids in sidebars. We finished each chapter and couldn't wait to discover the answer to the science mysteries that each generation of chemists explored.
