In the Spirit and Vibe of the Cocteau Twins,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ever (Audio CD)
This CD is completelely astounding! Its a band with an incredibly talented vocalist and an instrumentalist who seem to be inspired on taking the Cocteau Twins style of ambient/gothic dream-pop to a whole new level. All of LSD's albums are worth owning for any fan of this genre. Ever is my favorite because it has the spiritual vibe of their first two albums with the electro-hypnotic sound of Flux. This particualar album is in my opinion the best of both worlds in that respect. Along with Ardor, its perfect for meditation. You may have an out-of-body experience if you listen too intently! I hope LSD's upcoming release is more balanced like this than having the strictly drum n bass sound of Flux.

Silky-smooth, very relaxing music...a must have...,

For those people who are stressed out at any one point in their lives, they should look into this CD on the Projekt label. Projekt has published some very off-the-wall, not very well-known stuff in the past, but Love Spirals Downwards makes an album that anyone can enjoy. Like most Projekt titles, this one doesn't get the publicity it so rightly deserves. This album is comparable to James Iha's "Let It Come Down" as far as relaxation is concerned. Each track flows, giving the listener a sense of floating, even euphoria. At some points the album seems to get Gregorian Chantish in a way, except there are no monks and no droning--just the two beautiful voices of Suzanne Perry and Ryan Lum. A quality album with quality music...just buy it. :)

Most cohesive of all of their releases, "Ever" represents the apotheosis of LSD's sound. Each track has a smooth and languid feel, the aural equivalent of feathers being levitated by a gentle zephyr, propelled along by Suzanne Perry's warm, ethereal voice. Mellower than LSD's previous releases yet more densely textured, each track possesses a timeless, expansive quality that guitarist Ryan Lum had been perfecting on "Idylls" and "Ardor". Well-crafted without being over-produced, and definitely music that manages to be both sensual and contemplative at once. The first two tracks "El Pedregal" and "Sideways Forest" set the tone for the rest of the disc, promising and delivering an atmospheric, evocative listening experience.

Awesome female etherial music,

Few bands are essential to a music collection but LSD is perhaps the flagship of the "Heavenly Voices" genre. Like much on the Projekt label, they are under appreciated, but if you like excellent etherial "heavenly voices" or "angelic" music, buy all three of their CD's. You won't regret it.

Easy listening,

If you're hooked on Cocteau Twins, the finely-textured and ethereal music of LSD might be just the thing while you're waiting for the next CT album. Although many of the songs here sound quite similar, that's not necessarily a problem; there's not a bad track in the bunch, and the album as a whole has a pleasing, hypnotic quality. It deserves to be heard by a much larger audience.

Ethereal,

I saw Love Spirals Downward play in Chicago over ten years ago. This album was their current release at the time. This is a gorgeous slice of dreamy acoustic pop backed with touches of electronic percussion and keyboard affects. Ryan Lum is a fantastic musician, weaving many textures together into a rich tapestry to back the delicate vocals of Suzanne Perry. Sometimes her voice seems little more than a whisper, very dreamlike. In fact, the whole album has the feel of a peaceful dream, beautiful and pure. This is still one of the most lush, pretty recordings in my collection.

Come the Sun, LSD turns to drifting folklore,

This review is from: Ever (Audio CD)
Less ambient, Love Spirals Donwards return to a more accoustic folklore tracks like Last Classic, Delta, Ipomoea. Sounds more friendlier in Ever, LSD is determined to recreate the childhood moment back. If you are looking for some sad tunes, they won't be found here. Suzanne Perry's voice is more vivid and clear in this album, talking to you like a blossoming flower. Other track like Above the Lone is also worthy of listening. If you are a LSD fan, this one is not to be missed. But if you want to repeat some exhilarating moment, turn to "Idylls".

Not alot of bands could even come close to sounding like the cocteau twins. LSD is probably that band. They create rich atmospheric music without sounding like knock-offs. Ryan lum is a genius guitar player suzzanne perrys voice floats over the music effortlessly. Ever is probably one of their best albums, all of the songs blend together seemlessly as if they all relate to each other. The music is just heavenly.

After a hard day at the rock quarry come home and kick off your shoes, jump in a hot bath with a glass of bubbly, turn on "Ever", and be transported on a gossamer breeze to a mystical, otherworldly, more relaxing realm.
