3.0 out of 5 stars Useful, intelligent, but incomplete
This is a very interesting, intriguing book. It simplifies some ways of viewing interpersonal life. Shows you a judo of sorts that you can use with your interaction with others. Seems to verge on offering much more. But something is missing I think. Almost a great book, but that something that is missing.

Lots of ways you want to use this life outlook to...

A very interesting presentation of a model of human and collective behaviour, Toru Sato hits on many co-related points between psychology, and perhaps unintentionally, quantum science.

We are energy based; its quite simple. Beyond molecules, or the Primacy of Matter, we are formed from energy. Our number one need as humans, is security. So if we are insecure (either financially, emotionally, or physically), we lose energy, and our happiness drops. We then have to steal energy from others to meet our desires. Sato's ocean analogy model describing energy exchanges is great. Why we do this, and how we do this individually and collectively is the overall message from this book.

There is a lot to absorb and it is written in a style lighter than some other esoteric/psychology books I've come across.

There is relevance between Sato's book and real world experience, so its not one of those 'theory' only resources. I especially like the way we associate with groups who share the same insecurities. I look at it in terms of projecting the unwanted parts of ourselves onto others. If we are prone to using the Reptilian part of our brain when under stress which insecurity causes, we will resort to predator behaviour to "steal" energy from other individuals, or groups to increase our perception of security. In the West because we are more digital in nature, we orient our economic and financial structures to support predator behaviour collectively, or Social Darwinism - separation and competition. Instead of alleviating conflict, this just generates more - and more insecurity, so more of our energy goes into protection instead of the growth required to solve the conflict. Reminds me of the Monsters Inc. movie where the Monsters used the energy from 'screams' by intentionally creating fear, used to power their plants and machines.

A great read, bordering on integrating the Primacy of Consciousness into the way we behave.

I also recommend Dr. Bruce Lipton's "The Biology of Belief".

5.0 out of 5 stars Very insightful, July 27, 2005

This excellent book explains the nature of human interaction by examining how we give and take energy from each other in both healthy and unhealthy ways. The author also provides wonderful insight into how we define ourselves internally and the ways this definition determines our level of self-esteem.

The book is small and easy to read. The material is very thought provoking and I find myself reading only a few pages before I need time to reflect on how the concepts play out in my life. I have had some wonderful personal breakthroughs as a result of reading this book. I recommend it.

Dr.Sato is one sharp cookie, and writes clearly too. A very practical book on how we 'steal' and give energy between each other.

He dosen't expect us to be perfect in dealing with the ones we have relationships with, and he tells us why we act as we do, and how to improve our relationships with other people by a careful interchange of energy...It's all energy, and this is a handbook on how to juggle energy so we all get what we want.

This book is far better than I thought it would be.

I'm no spring chicken, and I've learned tons of good stuff that has already made my relationship with other people WAY better.

Wish I had this years ago, but it's not too late for you to get in on a good deal...The insight of A Master: Dr. Toru Sato.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gave me a new start, May 16, 2005
This review is from: The Ever-Transcending Spirit: The Psychology of Human Relationships, Consciousness, and Development (Paperback)
Do you spend a lot of time complaining about your life? Do you criticize others in a discouraging way? Do you boss people around? Do you often feel tired of people expecting you to do things that you don't want to do. Do you have a habit of talking people's ears off? Do you yell or belittle others when you disagree with them? Then you should read this book. I've had some bad things happen to me and I noticed that react badly to people because of that. It's not about who is right or who is better. It's about what is best for everyone including me. I'm not very good at dealing with them yet but at least I see my insecurities and the bad ways I am dealing with them. It's a start. We all have to start somewhere right? This book gave me that start.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything I wanted to know!, September 15, 2003

This review is from: The Ever-Transcending Spirit: The Psychology of Human Relationships, Consciousness, and Development (Paperback)
There are many books on self-help, relationships, spirituality, and psychology for the general public out there but this one is probably the best I have ever read by far (and believe me, I have read many). This book explains almost everything I wanted to know in a simple, interesting and inspiring way! It provides us with answers about our relationships, our development, our mind, as well as the evolution and history of the world. I couldn't believe how everything made so much sense when I was reading this book! It is quite simple but I never really got it and from what I have heard from other people and read in other books, not many people do get it. Don't get me wrong, the answers do not always provide easy solutions to our everyday problems (it's not a book that promises you instant happiness) but it helps us put our problems in perspective and deal with them effectively. It enables us to see how it all comes together if we understand some basic underlying rules about nature. Don't miss out. Highly, Highly, Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very insightful, September 13, 2006

It is not a long book, but the insights and information it contains make quite an impact.

I appreciated the fact that it didn't wander off into New Age jargon and salesperson-type ideology, instead retaining a more 'real' viewpoint of relationships, consciousness and development.

Now, while the book's title might appear a little challenging, the book is far from it, and in very few pages it delivers a nicely-rounded and encompassing model for viewing our interactions in the world.

I especially enjoyed the section titled "Helping others Grow", which when viewed with the ever-growing self-help seminar industry in mind, shows up the the fallacy that there are quick fixes to be gained in mass-produced weekend-long seminars involving psychotherapy and hypnotherapy, often used by unqualified 'teachers'.

Once the model that Toru Sato uses is understood, one can easily jump to the section one wishes to view and in very few pages find a clear understanding of it.

I've read enough self-help books that expound great sounding but unrealistic ideas to never want to read one again, but this book cuts through all the mumbo-jumbo to deliver messages that are, at the same, both obvious yet insightful.

I would highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring to the bone! Don't miss it!, November 26, 2003

This review is from: The Ever-Transcending Spirit: The Psychology of Human Relationships, Consciousness, and Development (Paperback)
This book does a fantastic job of integrating what hundreds of researchers and theorist in numerous fields have been saying into one single fascinating theory. Although some of this has been done before, the thing that is exceptional about this book is that the author seamlessly integrates a wider range of seemingly unrelated theories than ever before. And the incredible thing about this is that this is all done in a way that is understandable to almost anyone. No prior specialized knowledge necessary. After reading this book, I was left with a feeling of newfound freedom and hope for the future like never before. It left me in utter awe of the beauty of the big picture regarding nature and its evolution. Although I don't think I can say that about any other book I have read, I can honestly say that I am a more confident, happier, and emotionally mature person after reading this book. Even if you had only one book left to read in your life, don't miss this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Most enlightening book ever!, September 7, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Ever-Transcending Spirit: The Psychology of Human Relationships, Consciousness, and Development (Paperback)
I have read many many books on Psychology, Philosophy, and Spirituality but this book is by far the absolutely most enlightening and inspiring! When I was reading this, it was as if everything clicked! After reading this book people, my life, and the world make so much more sense now. Every moment in life feels like listening to beautiful music! I recommend this book to each and every single person out there interested finding a better way to understand themselves, the world, and their life. It discusses spirituality but is not religious in any way. It discusses relationships, consciousness, and human development and how those three things are intricately related and part of one process. You just have to read it for yourself! It is just absolutely fascinating!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for those on the path, October 1, 2004
This review is from: The Ever-Transcending Spirit: The Psychology of Human Relationships, Consciousness, and Development (Paperback)
If you are ready to see into your own insecurities and work on them, then you are ready for this book. If you believe you have no insecurities or do not want to think about your own insecurities, then this book is not for you. I understand that some people may not be ready to face certain things about themselves. For those people, this book may make very little sense to them. Hopefully there will come a time for everyone when they are ready to look at their own insecurities and learn from them. Once that time comes, I recommend you read this book. It will be painful at first but it will also help you find a way to a better existence. Denial and repression allows you to stay somewhat comfortable but it also leaves you in a state of arrested development. There is no need to rush. Just work on one roadblock at a time at your own pace and you will get there in time. This is truly a great great book with many important messages.

5.0 out of 5 stars I really hope you read this book!, September 28, 2003

This review is from: The Ever-Transcending Spirit: The Psychology of Human Relationships, Consciousness, and Development (Paperback)
Back when I was in college a while ago, I took a very memorable psychology class from Dr. Sato. Even though I really don't remember much from any of the college classes I took back then, there were a few basic messages about life that Dr. Sato mentioned that really struck a chord inside and stuck with me. Although something clicked and these things he said were very interesting, I didn't think much of it when I was taking his class. I was much more absorbed with other typical concerns of a college student. Having a bit more life experience now, I feel like I am really beginning to appreciate what he was really trying to tell us. About six months ago, I came across the book "Rhythm, Relationships, and Transcendence" written by him and decided to buy it in hopes that I might learn more than the few bits I remembered from that class many years ago. This book was quite excellent and extremely inspiring but it left me with some missing pieces in the puzzle. Although this book is indispensable to me now, it left me hungry for more. It made me think deeper in search for a more complete picture of my relationships, my development, and the world around me and how it is evolving. Then recently, I bought "The Ever-Transcending Spirit", the more recent book by Dr. Sato and found many of the answers I was so dearly looking for. After reading many books on these topics, I must say that this is the most readable, insightful, and useful book I have ever read. I cannot say enough about this book! This book is a tremendous gift to the world and I hope many people read it and are inspired by it. I just want to say that I really appreciate thinkers / writers like him sharing their insights and wisdom with the rest of us and inspiring us to feel that we can all make a positive contribution by participating in this world with the utmost sincerity and heart.
