Truly a Marvelous Series, November 24, 2010
This review is from: Everest: Beyond The Limit - The Complete First and Second Seasons (DVD)
As I sit here on the couch writing my first review of anything, Everest beyond the limit, is running on the tube. Maybe the 8th or 9th time, I really am not sure. I am not a critic so don't know all the catchy phrase's, or lingo to use to entice someone to buy or want something, but felt compelled to just let people know that nothing in a long time has grabbed my wife or myself like this series. We are casual hikers, I'm in my mid 50's here in the northwest and have never been over 7,000 feet. We watched this for the first time a week ago and since, have researched everything we can get our laptops on about Everest. I guess you could say that we are just enthralled with it. I have ordered 8 books concerning Everest, printed maps of both the south and north routes now, and are planning a climb up Mount Rainier this yr. Anyone who respects just what it takes to accomplish a climb like Everest ( we had no idea what was really involved until now, I love the Sherpas )should watch this. The Sherpas, the guides, and the people are awesome. We loved this series.
PS: I did shed a few tears, To have to leave someone on a mountain to die (end of season one) is beyond most of our comprehension. Not for the Timid.!!!

For The Everest Obsessed, November 25, 2010
This review is from: Everest: Beyond The Limit - The Complete First and Second Seasons (DVD)
I, too, have been obsessed with this mountain, and just came back from Nepal having seen the Big Kahuna in the "flesh." I took a friend with stage 4 cancer who had never been out of the U.S. I guess it was our "Bucket List" and I wanted her to have the Grand Adventure before she has to go. It was worth it.
I would never consider climbing Everest, but I sure love watching others do it from the comfort of my living room :) This series was quite exciting if maybe there was some choreographed "drama" inserted, but a finger-nail biting series. It was the impetus that made me finally go to the Himalayas to see this mountain in person.
To the first reviewer of this series, if you're so enamored of this mountain, you MUST go see it in person! Bypass expensive tour companies, self-guide yourself and family. You'll save thousands of dollars. Maps everywhere, hundreds of tourists to ask, you cannot get lost on this trail. Comfortable lodges are on the trail all the way to Everest Base Camp for $20 a night; food is safe and excellent! Watch this series, then GO!!!!!
