We fell in love with this game over Christmas at our family reunion. It requires making combinations of symbols/colors/# quantities. Because of this, it is a moderate paced strategy game that is easy to learn and playable by many ages in the family (I'm guessing age 8 and up). It was a good alternative when we were tired of the deep strategy of card games and didn't have the energy for more upbeat interactive games like Balderdash. The pace and feel of the game reminded me of Mexican Train dominos. A great addition to the family game cabinet. Enjoyed it and will be buying it for myself now!

Set Cubed is a slow paced, family, thinking game. We played it continually over the Holidays. It is compact enough that it travels well. I would suggest this game to anyone! I do wish it came with more dice, but overall it is great!

About six years ago, a third grade teacher recommended the card game of Set. My family loved it, and I could tell that it was mathematically educational. I'm so glad that they now have made a board game with a similar problem-solving foundation. This is fun for the whole family--especially since it eliminates the 'may the quickest person win' philosophy by letting each player take turns. [The Set card game is more of a see-it, slap-it version whereas the board game is a traditional one-turn-per-player]. Great game and very educational (but don't tell the kids that!). I highly recommend it.

We LOVE the card game Set. I was very excited about the cube version. We've played it several times, according to the directions, and each time the play is just OK. The problem is waiting for your turn ~sigh~yawn~sigh~ it was just boring waiting and watching while 3 people before you take forever agonizing on where to place their cubes. There is no timer... maybe that would help. Also, I didn't like how towards the end of the game, there's not enough cubes to go around. The person that went first gets the cubes. The directions state that this is fair, but it doesn't seem that way when playing. Also, it's just more boring time for those that didn't get any cubes. This is how we play, and I owe it to my 7 year old daughter for coming up with the idea. We divide the cubes between two or three people (four people seems to be too many). Any leftover cubes are set aside. Shout "GO" and each player tries to make as many sets as possible with their cubes. Sets can cross into other sets like a crossword puzzle. When you've used all the cubes, shout "SET" and play stops. Keep track of scores with 1 pt given for each cube not used in a set. Play a certain number of rounds, and the person with the LOWEST score wins. Pretty fun! Everyone plays, it's exciting, and what a brain workout! I may buy another box just to get more cubes and either have more people play, or just have more cubes for a smaller number of people. TRY IT!

We have the set card game and I thought set cubed would be similar but possibly harder than set. Nonetheless, we picked it up on clearance from another seller. It is one of my favorite games. I have described it as a cross between Set, a crossword puzzle, and scrabble. Because each player gets a turn, there is no rush as there is in Set. You can play with children and adults without the children being unable to keep up. It takes about 30 - 45 minutes to play so it's a good after dinner game.

This is a fun game we can play as a family. We had the SET card game but decided to replace it with this after a few of the cards went through the laundry. My 9-year-old son will play this with us because he has time to think about the moves. He never played the card game when we followed the rules because the game moved too quickly for him. He would only play when we did a variation we had found online where you remove a card and place it face down before starting. Then, working as a team, we would find all the sets like the regular game (only not racing through it). When we couldn't make anymore sets, we would study the cards that were left to figure out the shape, color and number for the face-down card. When everyone declared their solution, we turned the card over to see who was right.SET Cubed lets us take our time playing, and there is strategy involved. It took us a few rounds of playing and referring to the directions to play it correctly. It isn't complicated, it's just I read the instructions too fast, and missed a few steps. The dice are a little large for the kids to shake five at a time, but having them that big makes it easy to read the symbols.

Anyone who likes SET should try Set Cubed. It is essentially the same great game with a few variations. One is that all the cube shapes are a solid colour, therefore eliminating the need to consider shading when forming sets. You also play on a board where you can get bonus points for playing your set on specific squares. (I think you could easily play the game without the board to have a fun travel game, it would just change how you score the sets) The addition of the wild cube is good, but takes a while to get used to because you have to try to remember what the wild cube represents throughout the whole game. Probably the variation that I liked best was how you have time to think. Each person has a specific number of tiles and they are able to see them, look at the board, and then consider what they will play on their turn. In the original SET game it's a bit of a free for all and anyone can claim a set as soon as they see one. So in that sense, Set Cubed can provide a more level playing field for those just learning the game and others who do not enjoy the race type atmosphere of SET. All in all it's a great game and I'd recommend it!

I love this game and my students love it as much as I do. It is not just entertainment but a great way to get the mental exercise my students need to start their day on our daily projects that require "thnking outside of the box"

Bought this for a Christmas gift for my 8 year old son. We started out a little slow but the game has quickly become a family favorite. My husband and I actually play it more that the kids right now because it's challenging and we are competitive. My 10 yo and 8 yo really like it but my 6 yo doesn't quite understand it yet. She just wants to keep rolling the dice. Great game!
