Book Description

In a day and age when the Mayan calendar is about to wind down, society is gripped in fear. Governments around the world begin to fail, rioting hits the streets as social unrest becomes even more apparent, and churches of all religions are forced into the responsibility of trying to hold it all together. As the end of the dreaded Mayan prophecy approaches and turmoil continues to ravage the globe, a man in Chicago has something even more important in mind…the killing of his next victim.

It has been ten years since we last saw Everett Holmes and much has changed in his life. For a decade he has been searching for his old friend turned serial killer, Max McQueen. No luck and very few clues have taken him around the globe in a dire search that has brought him to near madness. The trail is now cold as ice and Everett finds himself thrust into the modern era where crime still happens on a daily basis and psychos are blazing their own trails through history.
Everett has become a lone wolf, a recluse, a lost soul. It’s not until his trusted friend Tommy made Lieutenant and needed his help, that he was able to crawl through the darkness and into the light of reality once again. A rash of new murders has taken place and the killer, as any professional in his trade, has become exceptional in his craft. He has eluded law enforcement at every turn until they have no choice but to call in the very best, or at least a man who used to be.

Through his drug-induced haze, Everett begins to see the workings of a madman whose penchant for angels and lost souls are just as important as the manner in which the bodies are discovered. On the road to tracking the killer, Everett puts himself directly in the line of fire and hopes to find his own personal redemption in the process.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE EVERETT!!!! June 25, 2013
Format:Paperback
I fell in LOVE with Everett Holmes in "The Case of the Forged Fingerprint Killer", and fell in love all over again in "Sanctuary of the Damned"!!! Erik Ekstrom has a way of grabbing your attention from the moment you open the book!! Everett has a history of drug and alcohol abuse and addiction, which I believe is from the death of his brother who he admired and respected, not being able to move on from. Thus giving Everett the drive of his career. There is a soul lost that is taunting Everett and his partners on the Police force in the most brutal murders and mind games only a true psychopath could play. Through as haze of a herion, booze and pot Everett always at the ready to be the consultant..HOWEVER friends become involved...If you love the PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLERS and want to think you can solve the mystery, this is a book for you!! I THOUGHT I had it figured out..I do believe that the World needs a Third Everett Holmes book, I DO!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A taught, riveting thriller May 30, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Erik Ekstrom's ability to draw the reader into his world improves with each book. Like Forged Fingerprint Killer, Sanctuary of the Damned puts gifted investigator Everett Holmes through hellish challenges to catch a psychotic killer. This is definitely not the kind of story you read before bed if you're prone to nightmares.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sherlock Would Be Proud!!! February 5, 2014
By Cyn O.
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
From childhood, I've been a fan of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famous fictional character, Sherlock Holmes. So it was with great anticipation that I picked up Erik J. Ekstrom's crime thrillers, Everett Holmes: The Case of the Forged Fingerprint Killer and Everett Holmes: Sanctuary of the Damned, the first two novels of his Everett Holmes series, which chronicle the exploits of Sherlock's great-grandson, Everett. Ekstrom dishes up a hard-nosed, flawed, genius of a private investigator, with a drug and alcohol problem, whose brilliant crime-solving skills land him on a police task force to solve the worst serial-killer crimes in Chicago. Such is the premise of each of these books. I won't give away the plots (they're too delicious to spoil), but I will tell you that Ekstrom brilliantly uses the vibe and harsh weather of Chicago to flavor his crime novels as he expertly spools out clues and weaves in backstory. I'm usually quite adept at figuring out "whodunnit" storylines, but Ekstrom kept me guessing until the very end. I found the books to be gritty, fast-paced, and intriguing—a fun, macabre, high-voltage ride. And I highly recommend both books to all devotees of crime fiction or psychological thrillers. Now, I can't wait to see what Everett is up to next in the upcoming third book of the Everett Holmes series!
