A Man Who Has Perfected His Craft!,
By MVMI@yahoo.com (Texas, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Everette Harp (Audio CD)
I remember walking into a music store some years back, and upon coming in I heard this wonderful music. This sax in a most delicious way, was pleading with someone, whispering to their hearts, caressing them. the sound was so sweet, so melancholy. I was thinking WHAT IS THIS SONG, WHAT IS THIS TAPE, AND WHO IS THIS PERSON?! The song turned out to be 'There's Still Hope', the album was called 'Everette Harp', and this was my introduction to this gifted musician.I have never heard of any musical artist, especially saxophonist, that could speak and express himself so clearly through his instrument. You can hear every sigh, every wish and longing Everette is thinking because it flows effortlessly from his saxophone - to your heart. The arrangments are rich and lush, and lay a perfect canvas by which he so sensuously paints. I also like the song 'More Than You'll Ever Know'. This selection, like all of his others have become to me like a best friend - familiar and casual; comfortable, cozy - a good companion. I guarantee, you will wear this album out! You might want to purchase two, just in case...

Everette Harp,

All I can say is that Harp's singing, though not terrible, would be better left to artists like Luther Vandross, Babyface, or Brian McKnight. But his sax playing is awesome, and I agree wholeheartedly with the review who wrote that 'There's Still Hope' is an absolutely gorgeous song. I think it's the best song this album has to offer, but his other instrumentals are wonderful as well, especially Freefall, Thank You For All Your Love, and He'll Never ELave.

EVERETTE HARP IS AWESOME. THIS CD IS MY FAVORITE. I COULD LISTEN TO FULL CIRCLE ALL DAY. I MET MR HARP IN ATLANTA AT THE CONCERT WITH BROMBERG. HE PLAYED FULL CIRCLE JUST FOR ME. I'VE BEEN BLOWN AWAY SINCE THEN.

This is his sophmore effort and also his best. I have known this young man since 1981 and he has established himself as one of the best in the business.Kudos to JAZZMAN.He is the best Sigma playing a saxophone that I know.

The best of the George Duke - Everette Harp collabos. Great band with Herm Mathhews on drums, Larry Kimpel on bass, Michael Landau on guitar and with Paulinho DaCosta on percussion. Great backing vocals as well. Produced by the smooth jazz maestro: George Duke. They were at the top of their game here. Also check out George Duke's "Snapshot". You won't regret this purchase, plenty of songs and variety.

Smooth Jazz Unsug Hero,

Plain and simple any Smooth Jazz lover should have this release in the collection. I remember hearing several tracks from this album on WJZZ in Detroit. I also remember Everette Harp dropping by the Arsenio Hall show as well. Unfortunately, Everette Harp got overshadowed by the likes of Kenny G, Najee, Kirk Whalum, Grover Washington Jr., George Howard, Art Porter, Dave Koz and David Sanborn. All great artists in their own right but Everette seems to get overlooked. The 90's was a great period for Smooth Jazz and Everette Harp definitely was a contributor. Freefall is my favorite track the horn section is crazy. If you had the pleasure of seeing this guy live you know he had a ton of energy. Listened to this album recently and it brought back some great memories.Peace,

Heard the first song of the CD on Pandora and loved it right away. Sadly, the mp3 was not available. So I purchased the whole CD used for the same price as one mp3, minus the shipping cost. The CD arrived earlier than the expected delivery date and was in excellent condition. All in all a great experience. Rick

Ok, a good album, but the other albums of Everette are surely better. It's produced by George Duke. Players: Larry Kimpel on bass, Paulinho Da Costa on percussion, "Doc" Powell, Michael Landau, Paul Jackson Jr. and Ray Fuller on guitar. I like Everette when plays sax, less when plays EWI.
