Wonderful music with an important message,
This review is from: Evergreen Everblue (Audio CD)
This is a wonderful tape filled with songs that encourage children and adults alike to respect each other and the earth. My 3 1/2 year old daughter loves it, as do I. One thing I love about Raffi's music is that it doesn't talk (or sing) down to children-it's very respectful and intelligent.

I use this tape, especially the song "Evergreen, Everblue" to introduce a thematic unit on environmental awareness. This song is a perfect lesson initiating activity to go with a lesson based on deforestation, in which I do an activity with the book "The Great Kapok Tree."

Music of the Spheres,

I use Raffi's evergreen everblue to introduce my students to Johannes Kepler's ideas about astronomy because Kepler showed how musical notes could be derived from planetary velocities. I tell my students that they are going to "hear" the rhythm of the universe. Hush. . . listen to the music of the spheres...and they first hear the coyotes howling at the moon and the rhythm of the evergreen everblue earth.

I just read in the Boston Parent's Paper that this CD was a "flop". I was amazed. It was always my favorite - raising four kids, it was the one album that had songs that everyone could relate to, old and young alike. Although "Baby Beluga" certainly had it's high points for my kids, this album just has so much to say. With enviromental concerns ever increasing, it would be interesting to see what would happen if this was re-released. Aside from the environmental issues Raffi raises so eloquently, there is also a wonderful message of respecting all life that is so encouraging. Each song can become a springboard for hours of discussion with your kids. That's what we've done, and it has been inspiring. Thanks!
