Elegant, moving, still immensely powerful after all these years, October 6, 2008

Barbra Streisand is not known for writing many songs, but when she does, she can knock it out of the park. This song was written for her now rather dated movie "A Star is Born". Avoid the movie, but by all means download this song. It is simple, lovely, heartfelt. Barbra's voice is at its peak--pure and beautiful as a snowstorm in spring, a waterfall of cascading silk. Somehow, her vocal talent is such that lines like "Love, soft as an easy chair/love, fresh as the morning air" sounds like a new revelation, a deep reflection on the true nature of love that we have never before heard.
I love this song. It is genuinely beautiful and to be savored. I'd probably avoid the rest of the soundtrack, however, unless you have a real longing to hear Kris Kristofferson wail away at 70's rock tunes as he is going off the rails in his own life. Interesting? Perhaps. But this song...wow. Wow.
