I too recieved this bag in a box semi-beaten up, but then again an 80 pound item in a lightweight cardboard box is bound to cause a little box damage. And no there was no interior protective bag, and my chain pack was tied with pink ribbon.

I am currently not impressed at all with Everlast's lower end heavy bags. I owned a canvas one years ago and ripped it in two days. Anyhow I got this bag from Dunham's because I needed something cheap and rugged to train in. It was not a good choice. First of all the bag is not filled evenly so after a while all the filler sinks to the bottom. This is a problem...

Now to the bag itself... The toughest, most well filled, and economical bags I have ever seen. I use light bag gloves and with the amount of filling and it's density I can punch for hours (If I had the stamina :) ), without getting the sore knuckles or the wrist pain that I used to get from denser packed bags. Plus it's an Everlast!!! This is a must buy for anyone who is looking for a heavy bag. Good luck and TRAIN HARD!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, July 4, 2005
This review is from: Everlast 4008 80-Pound Traditional Heavy Bag (Sports)
This is an excellent bag for anyone regardless of rather you are training for boxing, martial arts, or just want to punch and kick something and will take whatever you can give it. I've tried a couple bags and this one was by far the best in the 80lb range. Another review mentioned a couple of "problems" that they felt were signs of a return, but are not. This bag does not ship with a plastic covering, the zipper top is intentially missing and Everlast includes a sheet explaining why (unzipping it voids the warrenty), and all the hanging chains do come wrapped in a pink ribbon. Most of the reviews comments are just how Everlast packs every bag. Mine arrived with with well done packing tape in a box that was a little beaten from shipping, but the contents were not harmed or dusty. I train mostly bar hand, so my only complaint is that the Everlast logo stitched on to both sides of the bag can do some extra damage to your knuckles, but if you are using wraps and bag gloves than it is not a problem. Regardless, the quality of the bag and the beating it takes, compared to many other bags on the market, makes up for the stitching on the logo.

This review is from: Everlast 4008 80-Pound Traditional Heavy Bag (Sports)
I am currently not impressed at all with Everlast's lower end heavy bags. I owned a canvas one years ago and ripped it in two days. Anyhow I got this bag from Dunham's because I needed something cheap and rugged to train in. It was not a good choice. First of all the bag is not filled evenly so after a while all the filler sinks to the bottom. This is a problem because you are basically punching "Nevateer" and air which gives no resistance at all. I might as well be shadow boxing. I purchased a TKO heavy bag years ago for the same price and it was the best filled heavy bag I have EVER owned. I have a combat sports int. Thai bag and it does not have the filling consistency that my TKO did(may it rest in peace). Finally, Everlast apparently does not like to take the time to properly fill their bags because upon re stuffing the bag, I found four sand bags mixed in with the cloth filler. That really pissed me off. If you can't even get enough cloth into the thing to get it to weigh 80 lbs. then maybe you should reevaluate how you make your bags. Plus when I hit a heavy bag I DO NOT want to wonder which hit will yield the pain of connecting with a sand bag. It is really quite dangerous to have sand bags in a heavy bag like that. Sand filled heavy bags are fine for some athletes, but most people know when there is sand in their bag. However when I have what is supposed to be a cloth filling bag, I should not worry about breaking my wrists, shins, feet and god knows what else. I returned the bag the SAME day I got it. PLEASE spend about 30 dollars more and buy a TKO, Ringside, Title, Combat Sports, or a HIGHER end everlast bag. I won't even comment upon the over all craftsmanship of the bag.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bag is not the same as in the picture, April 13, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Everlast 4008 80-Pound Traditional Heavy Bag (Sports)
I ordered this 4008 80lb. Everlast bag that suppose to have chains on it instead of stitched nylon straps. What I ordered and wanted is what shows in the picture but that's not what I got. The traditional Everlast logo is different and I got nylon straps instead of chains from the bag to the chain hanger that is included. I am not very happy with this bag because it's not what shows in the picture. If you are concerned about the Everlast traditional logo and chains for the bag then don't order this bag because you won't get those two things. Other then that the bag is O.K. I can return it but what a hassle it would be to return an 80lb. bag. Amazon shouldn't deceive customers with inaccurate pictures of the product or at least inform the customer if the product has changed or just put the correct picture up.

The bag that is pictured with the chain and traditional Everlast logo is not the bag that is sent out. The model #4008 is what is on the box(box is barely hanging on and is patched up with shipping tape all over to keep it together) but the bag inside has black webbing instead of chain and the new International Everlast logo. Other than that this is a great bag for the money it just is not the bag pictured and it is not the one ordered. So expect the unexpected. Good luck and keep your guard up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavy Bag, July 20, 2007
This review is from: Everlast 4008 80-Pound Traditional Heavy Bag (Sports)
I've done some amateur boxing way back in my late teens and early twenties. I have punched a lot of bags in those years, I'll say that this product is of excellent quality and will last longer now that I'm a bit older and don't have that pack of punch anymore.

You want to loose that gut, build muscles everywhere and become a lethal adversary all at the same time? Then get a punching bag and pair of gloves. To be honest the hardest part is getting the bag to stay on the hook without pulling out your ceiling every few days. You need to consult a hardware store for the right bolt fitting. Getting this right is half the battle. When you have finally managed to find the right bolt type for your ceiling then you are on your way to becoming somebody else! 10 minutes a day will make you a mean lean machine within two months, guaranteed. Start by looking for the boxing posture on the internet. Take up this basic stance and learn to throw punches while protecting your face with the other glove. Tuck that chin in. You will cut your knuckles, even with gloves on, but these wounds will heal and soon you will find your hands hardening up with each blow. Move around the bag and make those strikes count each time. Feel the punch and try to avoid awkward possible wrist breaking miss-strikes that you don't want to make. Within a few days you will find yourself building up a quicker pace. Everyday your arms will be firmer and your muscles bigger. Your hands will become stronger. Take off the gloves at the end of the punching workout and try chopping the bag with the base of the hand, directly under the thumb with the thumb stretched out and the elbow bent. Strike downwards and sideways with the palm facing down, never up. Harden up those chop areas of the hands. Now when you have built up some nice chopping combos without gloves and boxing combos with gloves, it is time to throw in some elbow blows. Move that hand in towards your chest and strike just above the elbow with each arm. Twist that body and harden up those areas on both arms. Start striking with elbows, gloves or chops in whatever order you want. Build up a rhythm to your workout and soon you will be throwing twenty move combos at the bag. You will stun yourself. Now the next step is either to take up a proper boxing course for correction or go study some manuals on Close Quarter Combat. It beats most of the far east martial arts by using some brute force quick knockdown strategies. Try "Get Tough" by W. E. Fairbairn for starters. Rubber knives are also good. Learn the strategy in "Kill or Get Killed" by Rex Applegate. Keep up with the sport boxing and learn these powerful World War II Trench Warfare Close Quarter Combat manoeuvres for self defence. And it all starts right here with the bag. Bag owners simply have the power.

4.0 out of 5 stars Everlast 80lb Nice Bag but be careful, August 29, 2010
This review is from: Everlast 4008 80-Pound Traditional Heavy Bag (Sports)
These bags are common in gyms and karate dojos bu there is one important caution that you must remember. The ones in the gym are typically well broken in and a new one is not. There is a huge difference between you hitting the bag a lot to break it in and an entire gym of customers breaking it in. In otherwords, it is extemely hard to break a heavy bag in by your self, at home. The result is that you have greater risk of breaking your hands, wrist, or knuckles.

My advice is to remember at what point the bag is too hard and only hit above that point or on the edge. Kicks can be a bit more liberal as feet and shins are more durable then hands.

its a nice bag but keep this in mind. It will start out rock hard for the bottom half and that might never go away for you.

I've returned two of these bags. Both came in boxes that were previously opened (the original Everlast tape was cut open and retaped with clear packing tape.) The bags were not packed consistantly. Most importantly, what feels like sandbags were placed randomly just under the Nevatear cover. Great cover! However, a few hard punches into packed rags and then a sudden hard shot into sand is unsafe. I'm sure they make a good product, but I'm having a hard time getting one. Gotta move on.
