4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Starter Kit, but needs a few upgrades
This is a great value for the beginning boxer in your house. My only suggestion would be to upgrade the swivel that it comes packaged with. The one that's included is the most basic plastic swivel you can buy and after a few rounds of hitting the bag it would come unscrewed and end up getting punched across the room. I purchased the next step up in Everlast swivels for...

3.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't take much punishment
I bought one of these, got it mounted, no trouble. I enjoy every minute of working out with the equipment. However, the platform is made of particle board - mine broke in half this morning after about 3 weeks of use. So if you're like me and tend to lay into your speed bag, be prepared to replace the platform with a piece of solid wood.

This is a great value for the beginning boxer in your house. My only suggestion would be to upgrade the swivel that it comes packaged with. The one that's included is the most basic plastic swivel you can buy and after a few rounds of hitting the bag it would come unscrewed and end up getting punched across the room. I purchased the next step up in Everlast swivels for about $20 and the difference was instantly noticeable. Faster rebounds and a much more secure mount. You may also want to upgrade to a smaller bag after you get used to the one packaged with this kit. Oh, and one more thing, the kit comes with no lag bolts to mount it to a wall. I picked up 4 from the local hardware store for a few dollars, but I was surprised they weren't included like they were with the Everlast heavybag I also bought.

For everything you get in this kit, it is well worth the money and a great way to get started in boxing for a good workout or competitive sport.

3.0 out of 5 stars It looked like a good deal., July 27, 2005
This review is from: 6-Piece Speed Bag Set (Sports)
After 1 week of learning on this bag. It was way too slow even inflated as much as i dare. I replaced the bag and had no problems with the higher quality bag but, after two days the swivel broke. I would recomend buy a high quality bag and swivel or set if you plan on using it for anything more than decoration.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great training aid, June 20, 2003
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: 6-Piece Speed Bag Set (Sports)
This set includes the speed bag and mounting platform, speed bag training gloves, hand wraps, and a jump rope. I'm mainly a karate and kung-fu student and teacher, but I've done some boxing too, and one of the best exercises you can learn to enhance speed and agility is the classic boxing workout on the speed bag. More martial artists should use this great training tool. I never got to the point where I could mix in things like elbow strikes and head butts in-between punches like the real experts, but I got pretty good just hitting it with straight punches and back hammerfists and could really get it going that way. If you're going to try this, keep your shoulders loose and try to hit with proper rhythm and timing--those are the key elements. Don't try to go real hard and fast in the beginning, as you'll only be able to hit it once or twice before you miss. Start slow and build up from there. Altogether a great training for martial artists of all styles and stripes.

The jump rope is a nice extra although perhaps not as essential for karate students. That's because a boxer is poised on the balls of his feet, and his most powerful punch is the hook, which travels in an arc. A karate thrust punch is just the opposite. Karateists punch flat-footed and the punch is from the hips and travels in a straight line, so the karateist isn't always bouncing around on the balls of his feet like a boxer. He's more likely to shift stances and move only when necessary to adjust distance, although that depends on the individual fighter, too.

Overall, a useful set and at a reasonable price for the quality and features offered.

I can't vouch for anything about assembling or using this item. But, when I checked the order to see if it was correct, the bag that was supposed to be black leather was instead a weird rubbery red bag. I thought I was paying this high price because there was a leather one included. I contacted Amazon and they were extremely helpful: Told me to send it back in and they'd send another one express shipping. I received the other one, and it turned out to be the same type of bag. So, I haven't checked the page to see if it has changed, but I wanted to let people know what they are going to be ordering if they decide to buy this product.

This boxing set is a good value compared to if I would have bought each item separately. However, you only really need the boxing bag, gloves and that spinning thing to attach it to the ceiling. That other piece of equipment that you mount on the wall is very large and was not really that useful to us. Maybe it would be to someone else, but you can just use that spinning thing and mount it to a beam and use the boxing bag that way. That other mounting wall bracket is heavy and takes up too much room. But I bought this whole set anyway because it was cheaper to buy all this together than to buy it separately.. and it's good exercise!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for the price., June 12, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this setup a year ago and it has stood up to the test of time. the long screw that holds the hook for the bag can unscrew during prolonged beatings so i just dabbed some super glue on there, screwed it back in and the problem was completely fixed. Inexperienced users may hit the bag wrong causing it to fly off of the hook but after a couple days of punching the user will get their rhythm. A year ago this setup was 50 bucks, i guess its still not so bad a price at 60 something. The frame lines up to the studs in your wall so its solid. I just used four 16 penny nails to secure it to the wall, that worked fine. The kit comes with screws. I weigh 220 pounds and i was beatin on it pretty hard so its plenty durable- so long as you don't over inflate your speed bag like i did, lol.

2.0 out of 5 stars everlast speed bag good for beginners only, July 23, 2008

The first problem is that I finally have time to put the thing up and when I read the instructions, I quickly found that the most important item for assembly is NOT INCLUDED. I had to get 6 lag bolts before even assembling the thing. Of course it was late and the hardware store was closed - very frustrating. The bag is a little big and comes off the swivel attachment every once and a while - also frustrating. For the price it was a good value and beginners will enjoy it. For more advanced boxers, spend a little more and upgrade all parts.
Skipping rope is garbage - way too lightweight. Wraps are not flexible and too short. Bag gloves are unnecessary.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quality Product, December 27, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 6-Piece Speed Bag Set (Sports)
The 6 piece set was more than I actuallly needed, but I didn't know where I was going to mount the speed bag and so I got the whole kit. The speed bag is really good quality and the swivel is better than I thought it was going to be. It is nice to have both the wrap and the gloves if you are a beginner because you may find that one suits you better than the other. I did not end up using the platform but the frame leads me to believe that it is very sturdy. The jump rope, ah, the jump rope is a nice touch and it is nice to have, but i's nothing special.
If you are looking for a fun and challenging arm workout the speed bag is a lot of fun to learn. It is not about punching something as hard as you can it is about controlling your punch. I like it, it's fun and it's a really good outlet on very bad days.

"Product Description"
24" Smoothly finished adjustable (6-3/4) wooden drum. Powder coated enamel brackets for superior durability. Hand wraps, Bag gloves. Leather speed bag with swivel, Jump rope.

This product is a great deal. It may be shipped with a vinyl speed bag even though it says leather. My package shipped with one mounting bracket and a chipped particle board. BUT IF THAT DOESNT HAPPEN TO YOU AND YOU RECIEVE WHAT IT SHOWS IN THE PIC, YOURE GETTIN A great DEAL.!!!

black handwraps instead of the tan ace bandages they send you would be nice for starters. and
