1.0 out of 5 stars It looked nice, but held less than three minutes before coming apart, February 6, 2007

The band that holds the foot came loose with the whole string after two minutes of light use, I didn't even had the chance to kick with it; I excepted better quality from Everlast; too bad
In addition, the bands that hold the chin are designed such that it is difficult to tighten this thing on your shin

Bought these last week and have now used it in Krav Maga sparring. Overall, they're pretty good. Note that these are not designed to be used with shoes. You can probably still wear shoes if you want, but then you can't use the bottom elastic strap; that may be why the first reviewer's broke (or maybe huge feet?). Plus, the shoe tongue makes them not fit so well. They were a little strange-feeling at first and definitely took some getting used to. Barefoot they seemed to rub a little, but were comfortable enough with socks. The protection is very good, with about an inch of stiff foam in the central parts of the shin and half an inch around that. One major issue is the sizes: I'm a 5'8", 170 lbs. man. At first I ordered the S/M and they seemed a little small, so I ordered the L/XL to compare. Both stopped below the knee, but I'm returning the small size. I think that smaller size may be only appropriate for people significantly less than 5'8". I agree the straps could be longer; but I have pretty muscular calves and was still able to make them work. Measurements: S/M: Shin is about 14" long, main pad is about 4" wide. L/XL: Shin is about 15" long, main pad is about 5" wide. Both sizes' foot parts are about 6" long and about 5" wide. The seam between the shin and foot has a lip on the inside that is a little annoying. The construction seems solid. I was a little unsure at first, but they've grown on me and overall, I'm satisfied.

2.0 out of 5 stars Ok for starters..., November 22, 2010
This review is from: Everlast Mixed Martial Arts Shin-Instep Guards (Sports)
when I first got into MMA, a buddy gave these to me. I thought they looked pretty cool, and they did the job. After about year of using them (and as my kicks got stronger and technique improved) the just didn't cut it anymore. Any one who is interested in getting serious with MMA should not get these, due to the fact that you eventually out grow them and require a higher quality product.
