3.0 out of 5 stars fine CD--as far as it goes, that is, March 19, 2008

(TOP 50 REVIEWER)
The Everly Brothers - All-Time Greatest Hits is a relatively inexpensive CD that gives people a taste of the best artistry of The Everly Brothers. The sound quality is excellent and the artwork is pretty much the same as it always is when Curb Records releases a CD. If you're on a tight budget and you still want a sampling of The Everly Brothers, this CD could be the one for you to choose even if it certainly isn't complete.

The CD opens with The Everly Brothers singing their hearts out on "Bye Bye Love." This was of course a huge hit for them early on after they were discovered; and they sure do this up right! The guitar work on "Bye Bye Love" couldn't be better either. The tempo changes a lot when you hear the next song, "All I Have To Do Is Dream." This song dancing love ballad is perfect for slow dancing with your sweetheart late at night all alone in your living room. Excellent! There's also "Wake Up Little Susie;" this ballad tells the story of a date that was so much fun they stayed out much later than they promised her parents they would! The guitar carries most of the melody on "Wake Up Little Susie" and the number holds its own very well.

"Cathy's Clown" is a tune you may well recognize if you ever heard this on the radio; The Everly Brothers sings passionately of how they want to end the love affairs they have had with their girlfriends. The brothers harmonize perfectly and I love it! "Cathy's Clown" is easily a highlight of this album.

"When Will I Be Loved" sounds strong and very beautiful at the same time when The Everly Brothers perform this awesome ballad; the guitars and percussion work wonders for this number. "Let It Be Me" is yet another slow dance romantic number perfect for slow dancing with your sweetheart. Listen also for "(Til) I Kissed You." "(Til) I Kissed You" keeps these two brothers straight in the spotlight and they harmonize very, very well. They sing of how happy they are to have found new and exciting lovers for them.

"Crying In The Rain" ends the album with a fine tune about the sad ending of a love gone awry; and when The Everly Brothers sing this the effect is truly extraordinary--they're THAT good.

And their being THAT good is precisely why I cannot agree that this is a legitimate "greatest hits" album. A total of ten tracks is really very skimpy and I don't know why Curb Records couldn't have added at least one more song--would it have killed their profits? I doubt it. This is, therefore, a CD best suited for the casual fan or for people on a budget who still want the fabulous sound of The Everly Brothers. People who like oldies music will also enjoy this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Collection of Outstanding Music, September 12, 1999
By Frenchycub@aol.com (Palos Verdes, Los Angeles) - See all my reviews
Any collection of the Everly Brothers is fabulous, but this one stands out from the rest. It's got all thier hit songs in one cd.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lots of memories, May 29, 2008
Good transfer from the masters to a CD. My only criticism is that the CD is short. Surely there were a few more successful songs that could have been included.
