5.0 out of 5 stars Onward is an original metal band
I own both cd's by Onward and I have to admit, that out of many power metal bands that I normaly listen to, such as Iced Earth, Blind Gurdian, Destiny's End.... Onward is truely original metal band. Excellent guitar riffs, uplifting and never boring. Onward is outstanding. Metal forever!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Under-Appreciated U.S. Power Metal
Great vocals, catchy as hell riffs, all wrapped into a fun, yet epic feel. Power Metal fans should own each and every Onward record, starting with this one. The best part of this album too, is the lack of gloss that European bands seem to fall into. This isn't fluffy, flowery metal, this is true, speed metal based U.S. power metal. Must have for traditionalists!

I took a risk buying this record. I Heard some good buzz and said O.K. It's a refreshing Thing to hear Great classic metal again. Filled with Stright forward yet creative commanding songs, and Melodies that hook and surround me with powerful shredding gutiars and rich vocals. All I wanted to do was start listing to it again! Yes the album is short but so were all the great classic heavy metal records of the 80's. This record is a treat to all those who love or even once loved great metal. choice pics are "Storm coming soon", "The Waterfall Enchantress" and "Onward." I hope to hear many more records from this "new" , yet classic band. DK1

toby knapp is one of the most talented guitar players out there, he's for the most part in my top 10 list along with dave murrary and adrian smith of iron maiden. i have about 40 best friends who listen to this and say this a masterpiece so i strongly disagree with those that gave this band a 2 star there probably into glammer rock more than anything. i can't give you a description of the sound because they sound like no other so just buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Album,and this band ,are both,Very !! Under rated!!!, March 16, 2004

I've heard, not to mention,I have, quite a bit of power metal albums. So I can tell you just from that, that about 40% of the bands nowadays sound like my favorite band Helloween. That ofcourse being before they got the sorry Andy Deris, and after they had the horrible sounding Kai Hansen.Which could only leave Michael Kiske. My all time favorite Power metal singer!Who I think really set the bar,and makes Geoff Tate sound like a no talent glam rock sounding, bad song writting, loser!Who's music I won't touch with a ten foot pole, because to me it doesn't sound like Power Metal,it just sound's like slow, glammy, crap, with really horrible lerics.Anyways, that's off the subject, but I will say that I tryed,I really tryed to like Queensryche, but I hated every song on the Opperation Mindcrime album, and every song on the best of album. So I guess that's just the way it is.Anyway's I like this album from Onward because it's very smooth sounding, musically vocally, and lerically.Plus I think Michael Grants vocals are pretty cool sounding. Now they're not Michael Kiske's or anything, but they are different, and in a good way, they also fit the fantasy leric's quite well.

While the group however does lack speed on most of the song's,they make up for it with catchy lerics. Also I like the fact that they didn't use keyboard's on this album. Now I have nothing against keyboard's,but there are already a hole lot of Power Metal bands that use them to the hilt, like Sonata Arctica,Blind Guardian,Rhapsody,Brainstorm, the way,way overated weird jazz metal of Symphony X,and Dream theater, and thats just to name a few.So in short I would surely recommend this album Evermoving,I feel it's less of a sell out album than their new one Reawaken, although that album's pretty good too. It's just darker, heavier leaning more toward a Iced Earth type sound, and in my personal oppinion about Power Metal especially, heavier is not always better. If you want to listen to just heavy sounding stuff listen to Metallica,Fear Factory,or Slayer or something like that.Power Metal is more about, sounding good from a musical standpoint, with good speed,Double Bass, fantasy lerics,Dualing guitars, and a vocalist with catchy lerics, and good range. It's not about how heavy they sound,it's more about talent, and just sounding good with distorted, but sometimes very smooth sounding guitars...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good stuff!, July 24, 2001

It's not the best I've heard, not revolutionary, but it's definitely cool! It suites my taste in metal very well! The only beef I have is it could have had more songs on it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Please listen before you buy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, February 17, 2001

This review is from: Evermoving (Audio CD)
I bought this cd because of the 2 reviews on here that rated it well. Also on the cd there is a sticker explaining that it's "raging heavy metal", "guitar virtuoso", and "soaring vocals" I'm not really sure who wrote that...but they obviously haven't listened to much power metal. First off, there is nothing raging about any of the music on this cd. It's fairly up tempo, but not raging. Raging would be like Blind Guardian's stlye. As for the "guitar virtuoso" line, the guitar player has some interesting riffs, but it's nothing new. It's all just a heaping pile of pulsating regurgetated metal riffs. And for the "soaring vocals" well, that's a joke in itself. This guy is the worst power metal singer I have ever heard. He has a terrible range, terrible voice, and can't produce even one good melody. I am VERY disapointed in this cd. I'm not sure why I am giving it 2 stars. I guess 1 star is for the artwork (which stil isn't that great) and 1 star is for pity. Like my title states, please do yourself a favor and listen to the samples before you rush out and buy this cd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Boring beyond my wildest expectations., May 26, 2001

I am going to have to side with the other reviewer who rated this album 2 stars. Although it shows a spark of talent here and there, the music written here would have been much better received in the 80's. And the vocals...well, how can I put this delicately. Mediocre and that's being to kind.

As a vocalist of this genre myself, the lead vocals heard on this album lack emotion and range. Lead vocalists that inspire me these days and the guitar tones that have a new fresh sound come from true power metal virtuosos like Russell Allen/Michael Romeo(Symphony X), Fabio Lione/Luca Turilli(Rhapsody), Timo Kotipelto/Timo Tolkki(Stratovarius) & Khan/Thomas Youngblood(Kamelot).
