4.0 out of 5 stars Another year, another expansion
This game takes you to Odus, the land of the Erudites and the ugly amphibious mounts from Everquest.

The new content isn't as streamlined as it was in TSO and RoK, but it doesn't waste any of your time (for the most part). You wont be playing for 12 hours a day and over the first two weeks of the expansion getting to level 90, but you will spend some extra...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but dying
This game is wonderful. I've always loved EQ2 and the new expansion greatly adds to the mystical world. That being said, the game is dying compared to other MMOs. All but two servers are usually in the "low" population mark. I'd recommend joining the "high" servers to make it easier to find people.

The game itself is amazing, and it is probably my favorite...

4.0 out of 5 stars Another year, another expansion, February 21, 2010
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Everquest II: Sentinel's Fate (DVD-ROM)
This game takes you to Odus, the land of the Erudites and the ugly amphibious mounts from Everquest.

The new content isn't as streamlined as it was in TSO and RoK, but it doesn't waste any of your time (for the most part). You wont be playing for 12 hours a day and over the first two weeks of the expansion getting to level 90, but you will spend some extra time getting to the max AA level.

AAs: Are now handled in a similar way to how they are in Everquest. However, you still gain achievement experience from quests, named kills, etc. But you can choose to allocate a portion or all of your primary experience to your AAs (similar to disabling combat in the previous versions).

Quests: Make sure you check your mail!!! that is all I have to say about that.

Encounters: The expansion encounters (overland zones) are easier than they were in EoF, RoK, and TSO. They can still throw down the fisticuffs, but it takes some really horrible planning to die.

Advancement: I've played about 8 hours total since I bought the discs, and I'm already level 84. There are already level 90s running around, and I'm sure people are really close to having max AAs. I wouldn't doubt it if guilds have already taken out multiple raid bosses.

Pros: Leveling is a lot faster than I'm used to, but I've spent the past 4 months trying to level in Aion (so anything seems like it's prom night now). The quests don't drag on and on and on like they did in the past expansions (ie taking 20 kills to get 2 updates). Gear looks a bit better in some ways. Its realatively stable on Permafrost. Battlegrounds? (I haven't been in any yet). New AAs make you want to spend points into the Class and Subclass Trees.

Cons: They took away wizard ports.... They implemented a gear nerf, which will fubar your Epics, raid/shard gear, etc at level 90... The map interface still sucks. It'll cost you two kidneys and a liver to upgrade your spells to Expert or higher for a while..

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game, April 11, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Everquest II: Sentinel's Fate (DVD-ROM)
After many years playing WoW - my and my friends decided to try out EQ2. So far it has been a great game, and we have been impressed. The character development / advancement is much, much more in depth. The game being, overall, much more of a hard-core role playing game then the more action oriented WoW. The overall package is not as "smooth" as WoW, but still impressive.

The level of choices (24 classes, 18 races, class customization) make is so you really feel like you have an individual character - this was missing from WoW. End-game characters all looked and played relatively the same.

Anyway, if you want a good, hard-core MMORPG with a satisfyingly high learning curve this is a great choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars EQ2 is solid and fun with a mature community, December 5, 2010

EQ2 is a solid and fun game with the most mature (adult) community of any of the top fantasy MMOGs I've played (WoW, LoTRO, etc).

Granted the client engine needs some work and some of the older zones are a strange mix of high-res texture and low poly edges, once you really get into the game, you enjoy it.

EQ2 doesn't suffer from the "PvP or Raid" end game solution WoW does - with the AA structure you can do a lot with your character and there's no "best build" of a class - so people won't reject your character based on the way you've built it out.

EQ2 isn't perfect, and it's "different" from WoW and LoTRO (which are also excellent games) - it seems to cater to the more hardcore gamer than the casual gamer.

One completely unique aspect of EQ2 that WoW and LoTRO simply does not have (although LoTRO tried) is the housing system. EQ2's housing system and guild hall system is hands down the best out there. Do some research on this to see what players have built out. This ties to their guild system which is great at informing members of accomplishments, etc.

It's nice to go into a guild hall and see dozens of other players there, crafting, selling, talking, and organizing for raids, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Job on This One, March 21, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Everquest II: Sentinel's Fate (DVD-ROM)
A lot better than the past couple of expansions, Sentinal's Fate has excellent graphics, spans a large "world" and really is overall better than what I have seen in the past. It is also much more player friendly making it a lot more fun! Although, I am not real happy with the level cap being raised to 90 (I think perhaps level-ups in increments of 5 would have been better) you don't have to be max level to enjoy it, crafting or adventuring. Good job SOE!

I love this game... It's a family favorite in my house. I've played this game and lost track of time, played for 6 hours one night. Highly recommended if you like mmorpg's.

I had a lot of fun with the xpac and have already pre ordered the next.
SF offered a lot of new content and well of course levels. I had fun getting my toons to 90 and getting to see all the new content involved with it. AND of course clearing it before the coming xpac. SoE worries me some times, but this xpac was worth it and I am excited for the next one to come.

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally could afford this one! Thanks, Amazon!, November 4, 2010

I was hesitating for the longest time about getting the expansion; my main character wasn't level 80 yet, so I didn't have any particular need for it yet, and the cost was a bit too high for my low-income budget. But when I saw it on Amazon (through GoGamer) for this price, and coinciding with my main character's level ding to 80, I couldn't resist!

I haven't really delved too much into the new areas yet, though they do look quite enjoyable in some respects (but the lethal approaches to many of the travel path stations are a bit annoying, if one ventures there on foot). I still have many lower level quests to catch up on, but since I'm only a casual gamer, I'll have more hours of enjoyment coming to me than those who power-game their way to level caps in days and then get bored. ;->

In addition to the access to wonderful new zones (my Kerra main character can now go "home"!), one of the perks was 500 "Station Cash", which enabled me to "buy" a new character slot on Test server, where I badly needed a Woodworker crafter! Thanks, SOE, and thanks, Amazon! :-)

I've been playing EQ2 for over three years now. It's just a great game with excellent graphics. In general the community is a lot better than the bunch of children that play WoW. They have made this game a lot more "easy mode" than it used to be, a lot of the waiting around is gone, but I think they've had to do this to appeal to the impatient younger market that they need to draw in to stay alive. Still lots of fun add-in zones and challenges.
