5.0 out of 5 stars Just manage your time properly
It's really silly to harp on a game because someone with a compulsive personality plays it too often. Obviously the game is good, or no one would play it for so many hours on end. Granted, it is sad when a person looses so much time in such a way. It isn't the game that is at fault here though, the game itself is outstanding and has been going for years now with no end...

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't Work
Can ANYONE get this version of EQ to work? I've gone through hell and back with all sorts of tech support and over 24 hours of effort, and still can't get it to function. I tried everything the techies said to try, like countless other hopefuls, but it all amounted to nothing but wasted time.

Do yourself a favor before buying EQ Platinum. Just go to the...

It's really silly to harp on a game because someone with a compulsive personality plays it too often. Obviously the game is good, or no one would play it for so many hours on end. Granted, it is sad when a person looses so much time in such a way. It isn't the game that is at fault here though, the game itself is outstanding and has been going for years now with no end in sight. This is a plus to many of us who can manage our time properly and not forget about the real world out there. There is actually another expansion due out in mid September, which I am very much looking forward to.
As for this version in particular, it runs fine and I highly recommend it! It may of had some problems running about a year ago, but it's good to go now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun but too addicting, July 29, 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Everquest: Platinum Pack (CD-ROM)
I played this game for several years... literally. I loved playing this game, but don't suggest it to anyone. The game requires so much of your time and attention that it encompases your life if you are not careful. I suggest keeping away from this game and any game of the MMORPG type. For the sake of your life and financial/educational sucess don't buy this game.

beyond my personal convictions against this game, this game is one of the greatest MMOs there are. It has been running for 7 years now and there is a reason for its continuing success. Don't let its age turn you away, the EQ world is constantly being updated and made more graphically beautiful. Many people liked this, but once they changed Nektulos Forest (one of my favorite zones) I was upset.

The range of characters you can create is almost endless. There are a lot of different races and classes to choose from and that makes the begining very interesting because you get to try everything out and find what you like best. To get to the higher levels it takes a lot of time and level grinding which can get very tedious. I never got my characters past level 53 because of this (the max level is 70). Most of the game is played in a group and usually requires this unless you are a solo class like necromancer, bard, etc.

Making friends makes the game a whole lot more enjoyable. A big reason these games are so successful is because of the social aspect. One reason I quit is because all of my friends moved on to other MMORPGs that I couldn't play on my computer.

It really is a unique experience that I have not seen any other MMO match. If you can balance an extremely addictive game with a good balanced life, this game is for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great game, with lax tech support., August 21, 2005

The tech support does leave much to be desired, however, the overall gameplay is very good. You don't have a mmorpg go 5 years+ by being crappy. And as for Paisley, maybe you might've tried playing with him occasionally, you contemptable harpy? Granted, that much time is excessive, but it probably would've seemed less like nagging and more like guidance if you'd actually gone along on the ride now and again. It's not a bad game. I play with my husband, and we have fun, and still have time for our afternoon walk.

5.0 out of 5 stars Runs Fine, takes a while to install., October 19, 2004

Game runs great, just takes a while to install. Biggest problem is that you can not be running anything else while it installs. But since windows reccomends that you not run anything else, we are all doing that already, Right?

There is little or no lag in the areas I have been to, and the graphics are definatley not sub par.

I am currently getting ready to buy a 2nd EQ platnum. The first I bought from another retailor and it works find b arring me getting to understand it as I am used to another game which I played exclusively for 2+years.The only problem I encountered with EQ was that it took 3 days to download all the patches before I could play it for the first time.I used to play neverwinter nights and the tech wasn't compatable with my brand new computor with the latest tech so I changed. I found that it will take some getting used to and am gratefull for the tutorial
area they provide.

Do yourself a favor before buying EQ Platinum. Just go to the Everquest website, in the tech support area and look at all the problems with this version of the game. Next, Google it. You'll soon realize you're better off buying another EQ.

If you notice any disagreements with this negative review or any others, consider the fact that they might be coming from people trying to sell used games.

UPDATE:

It has been over a month since writing that last review, and the game still won't work. Believe me, my husband and I tried everything but there is a problem with the last major patch and its compatability with XP. Even tech support gave up on our problem, as they do with so many other people.

WARNING: Before you buy this product, keep a few things in mind. Sony has no toll free number for tech support or billing disputes or anything at all. Sony will not give you a refund, under any circumstances, when your game doesn't work. Sony will not give you a refund for any subscription time you purchased in order to play, or test the game to see if its working. Even if you never played the game for one second, you won't get a refund. Once you give Sony your money, it is theirs and they're holding onto it. Sony wiped a load of complaints off its board to hide the severity of the problem with XP compatibility. Buyer beware.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ever crap or Ever cracked, August 21, 2004
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Everquest: Platinum Pack (CD-ROM)
Has problems. Sony is working on the patch. Will not even play unless you go through abunch of gyrations. Still have not got mine to play. If I had wanted a lesson on computer repair, I would have bought computer repair. I just wanted to play the game. And, being they make most of their money on playing on line, It looks to me like they would have sold a product that WORKS.
