For everyone who loves online fantasy games. There is something for anyone. From beautiful adventuring zones to house decorating. This expansion is an all in one pack, so if you buy this you get the original game plus all expansions. You get a nice bear mount which levels with you. There is both an exciting adventure part to the game, a very well developed tradeskill part, there is thousand of quests and very customizeable house decorating part from little inn rooms to giant guild halls. Creating your character also gives you a lot of posibilities with so many different races and classes to choose between. When you have chosen your race and class then there is almost endless possibilities for customizing their looks. This game is fun and challenging for both teenagers and adults. The only downside to the game is the high requirements for your computer which must be up to date with lots of ram for being able to run the game smoothly and enjoy the fantastic graphics.

My husband has been playing EQ for years now, since the original. This is another great expansion and he was happy to have a mount that levels with him! The little pewter bear that came along with this is cute also, and fits nicely in with hubby's pewter dragons and wizards!

3.0 out of 5 stars Bitter-sweet expansion, November 24, 2008
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Everquest II The Shadow Odyssey w/ Pewter Bear (DVD-ROM)
Pros: New AA trees are great for the classes I play. I can't speak for all of them though. Tons of new daily quests and a large assortment of new instances to group in. Players are rewarded for instancing by item drops as well as quest items that allow you to purchase specific items. A lot of new quests that will help you get to the new Achievement max of 200.
Cons: Some group instances and all of the raid instances are tuned to challenge 10% of the total EQ2 population (people who have nothing better to do, than to raid every night and have all of their raid gear already). You need all 200 AAs to counter some of the nerfs they've implemented with the expansion. The new zone for contested questing has lag issues. Some classes in the game are too weak to be useful in the new zones, so players who control them will have a more difficult time finding groups to get the currency required to create the raid gear. Automated pathing is still an issue.

Overall this expansion is what I expected. A few good things, mixed in with a bunch of things that I will never see. This expansion is a great example of how the developers of the game only listen to people who devote all of their spare time to playing the game. There are very little options for the players who don't have end game items from the previous expansion.

I did receive the software & the game is working great so far, but I was disappointed when the package did not contain the Pewter Bear which it stated that it would be coming with.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantasy in a blender, March 3, 2010
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars

Throw every fantasy convention you can possibly ever think of into a blender and you will have Everquest II.

If high (and i mean HIGH) fantasy is your calling then this is the game for you. Gameplay is standard MMO fare with some cool spell/attack combos thrown in to spice things up. There is mounts and swimming and fishing and crafting.

Old areas of the game show their age and neglect deeply. Whereas newer areas of the game are more lush and vibrant, with better quests and rewards and NPCs.

The graphics are dated now, the game isn't all bad looking but the problem here lies in that they use pixel shader 1.1 for most of the rendering. This game was in development back in 1999 and they gambled on the wrong technology.

There is a pixel shader 3.0 update that was supposed to come out at christmas, and then it was supposed to come out when Sentinal's Fate came out. So far no 3.0 update. I stopped playing a while back as it got pretty stale, but I could see myself playing this over the likes of WoW any day.

High Fantasy at its best. What's funny is I don't think SoE is even close to being out of ideas for new content in this game. These guys have the imaginations of world class fantasy novelists.

5.0 out of 5 stars EQ2 Shadow Odyssey, March 18, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Everquest II The Shadow Odyssey w/ Pewter Bear (DVD-ROM)
Like most of SOE's expansions, this one is just as adventures with new items for sale for acquired void shards droped by mobs or quested. The game play is as typical as most of EQ2's previous expansions with new towns and new quest for the solo player or guild but made for the higher levels of toons.Everquest II The Shadow Odyssey

5.0 out of 5 stars Something for everyone...if you look, December 12, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Everquest II The Shadow Odyssey w/ Pewter Bear (DVD-ROM)
This expansion I feel is one of the best that Sony has put out for Everquest2. There is a little something for everyone if you look around and give it a chance. Sure you need to have a higher level adventurer or crafter but at this point that is not too tall of an order.

My guild has been working on the crafting group quests and have been enjoying the other new crafting quests included in this expansion.

Now with group adventure instances you can actually do some dungeon crawling without needing to set aside four hours to get through it. Also, the rewards for the shards seem pretty decent. Sure, if you are a min/maxer you may not like every single piece of armor but for a normal player like me who only has a little bit of free time to play this expansion delivers.

Although other games have gotten my attention recently, and I may soon move on, I've played EQ2 for almost the entire life of the game, and after trying many other MMO's out there, it's still one of the most fun. In addition to the normal adventuring and crafting, the phenomenon of house decoration is something not found in most other worlds. You laugh now, but just give it a try... having a cool appartment in game can easily become an obsession. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Online Game - A Must To Try, November 29, 2008

This is a huge product for the price when you consider you are getting 5 expansion packs included in this purchase. Consider that fact when other newer online games either only have one or none for similar or more cost. If you've never played Everquest 2 now is a great time to join in and experience its wonders. Beautiful landscapes, nice background music, a vast variety of lands to visit such as lush scenic green hills, deserts, underwater cities, civilizations in the sky, several floating asteroids in the depths of outter space (Bonemare), tunnels, caves, crystal caverns, huge haunted castles, haunted cities, etc. As for the variety of beasts you will find many to discover ranging from weird to very strange and bizzare; unlike other games that seem to limit their challenges to humanoid based creatures. And when it comes to battling giant beasts EQ 2 does it BIG. Their giants are really big as well as some of their epic creatures.
There are so many things to enjoy in this game. If you are one who appreciates a cool looking character with impressive armor then EQ2 is the place to be. The vast array of armor in this game is mind boggling and fantastic with plate armor really looking like metal. All the other materials are just as impressive such as leather, chain, and cloth armor. Their armor is not only realisstic looking but can also be very flashy with impressive designs, patterns, and many colors.

Serious gameplayers typically like to use some form of voice communiction (voice chat) while playing to coordinate their battles. Everquest 2 really comes through by providing a FREE chat communication feature that allows players to literally talk to one another while playing (provided your pc has a microphone and speaker). This is so convenient for those who have had to deal with figuring out how to use 3rd party chat products. Its easy to use and built right into the game interface.

Before you buy this game make sure your PC is up to the challenge. Check the system requirements and see where you stand. The cost of PC RAM is rather low cost these days so you should consider adding more if you need it. I think the recommended RAM is 1 gigs but most serioius players I know have at least 2 gigs. You will also need a good graphics card, one that at least supports Direct X 9 and has at leaat 256 megs of ram.

You may want to also check out some actual gameplay videos of Everquest 2 on YouTube. I would recommend seeing videos made by user name zonker61 which you can see at the below link:
