Book Description

May 8, 2003
This book reveals a natural treatment for asthma and other breathing disorders that helps adults and children, no matter how severe their condition. It explains the effective control of asthma with a simple breathing technique, the Buteyko method.

Sixteen million Americans suffer from asthma, and traditional research has failed to explain why. This book explores the physiology of the disease and gives new hope for effective treatment! It gives a full description of the technique, all the medical theory, and the wonderful case histories of people who have been relieved from their crippling asthma. It is the result of six years of research and observation by its author, a General Practitioner who now makes this benign, natural treatment of asthma known to all.

1.0 out of 5 stars No substantial information, June 21, 2003
This review is from: Every Breath You Take: Revolutionary Asthma Treatment (Paperback)
This book is basically a pamphlet for the Buteyko method and those that teach it. It briefly describes the Buteyko theory behind asthma, a bunch of testimonials, a history of Dr. Buteyko and the practice of his technique, and the goals of the technique. This information is freely available in equal or greater depth on the internet. I don't find testimonials to be terribly convincing. This book does not teach one how to do the Buteyko technique, claiming that it must be done under the close supervision of a properly trained person. As such, this book is worthless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helpful in Evaluating Treatment Options, April 6, 2010
This review is from: Every Breath You Take: Revolutionary Asthma Treatment (Paperback)
At 200 pages, this is certainly more than a "pamphlet". Book explains the Buteyko method, its history, and theory behind this effective treatment alternative. Although this book doesn't teach readers the Buteyko technique for breathing, it does help readers evaluate if this is a treatment option they want to pursue. Any treatment option must be closely supervised by doctor/specialist. The previous review states this book is "worthless" for not teaching how to do this method, but I feel this book responsibly presents information to help in your treatment decision; it would be far worse for this book (or any book) to teach readers to treat their own asthma.
I especially like this treatment option because it is natural and eliminates the negative side effects of drugs. Too often we only learn of a life-threatening side effect after a medication has been on the market for years and has killed many people.
