Thomas' "Guide" is more of a "Guide?" for the beginning scripture scholar. It was helpful for me, having taken introductory classes to both the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures, to have on hand as a review. I'll admit to using it in a pinch (but only once or twice!) to prepare for a discussion or debate when there wasn't enough time {ahem} to complete the book in question. "Every Catholic's Guide" is a thorough and reliable sourcebook for the armchair- or weekend- theologian, and a student's tried-and-tested companion... but don't tell anyone!
