I bought my copy last year from bookstore $5.99 bargain bin, plus 30% off coupon. So one of the rare times I could beat Amazon pricing.

Tonight, for first time, I made the Stir-fried Sweet & Sour Chicken (pg. 255) which turned out excellent, as expected. With photos for each recipe, and easy step by step instructions, you can't go wrong. This is one of my favorite cookbooks. But I can't say *the* best. I own 14 other cookbooks published by Hermes House. Though mostly written/edited by different authors, all Hermes House cookbooks use same format: each recipe with photos and easy-to-read instructions. All are equally good, especially those with Asian or quick meal theme. I've yet to make a recipe from any Hermes House book that turned out bad. Including this book.

One thing to remember--not only with this book but all Hermes House cookbooks--British English is used. So for buyers of this book who speak American English and think you have no access to certain ingredients, just brush up on British English. The ingredients might magically appear. ;-)

British named ingredients in book, with American English translation:

Groundnut oil = peanut oil
Corn flour = corn starch
Caster sugar = granulated sugar
Spring onions = green onions/scallions
Coriander = cilantro
Prawns = shrimp
Aubergine = eggplant
Courgette = zucchini

This is a fantastic Chinese cook book....with other asian cuisines thrown in. It's recipe per page accompanied with beautiful a photograph layout allows the chief to become fully absorbed in the creation of the desired dish. Clear instructions. Nothing I've made from this set of recipes has failed yet.
