5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read!!
This book was excellent!!!!! The characters are well developed. The plot is well thought out! I was engaged from the first page so much so that I didn't want to read it all in one day just so I could look forward to reading the next day and the day after that. Alas, I didn't succeed because I woke frequently at unGodly hours of the night to read a few more pages...

3.0 out of 5 stars Desiring More..., December 26, 2007
This review is from: Every Dark Desire (Paperback)
Vampires run wild in Fiona Zedde's third novel, EVERY DARK DESIRE, which chronicles the death of Naomi McElroy and her rebirth as vampire Belle.

Naomi's life in Jamaica was mostly uneventful, until the night her desire for women takes her to a place she's never been before -- and leaves her lifeless. Belle is now a blood-sucking, cold-blooded vampire, recruited by a clan of men and women just like her.

The ringleader, a sexy beast named Silvija, makes sure Belle learns the ropes of hunting for blood, fighting enemies and satiating her sexual cravings. It's far from easy, what with Belle missing her daughter, Kylie, and the life she left behind.

And it especially doesn't help that Belle's falling for her.

Their encounters are extremely wickedly hot, but Belle can't seem to get a good read on whether their affair means more to the unattainable Silvija. To a group of vampires who lack human characteristics, it's hard to tell whether Silvija's carnal desires are real, or just a part of the hunt and chase.

Zedde's Desire is evident in every page. You see the growing yearnings Belle has for Silvija, and the author's trademark sex scenes leave nothing to the imagination; you can visualize and feel thrust and lick. However, I wish this same attention to detail was given to the plot. In reading Desire I felt like the sex came every chapter, and the ending felt rushed. With that being said, Zedde is an excellent writer I will always read, as her previous works -- Bliss and A Taste of Sin -- were more than enjoyable.

Desire kept my pulse racing, but left me wanting more -- whether that's a good thing is up to you.

Despite my best efforts to make it last, I finished it in three days and am waiting impatiently for and hoping there will be a sequel. Fiona, if you're reading this, don't leave us hanging. Please hurry up and release the sequel cuz I know u must b writing one..

3.0 out of 5 stars It Could Have Been Better, August 15, 2007
This review is from: Every Dark Desire (Paperback)
Naomi McElroy has lived in Jamaica all her life with a secret. She has secret desires that have gone unfulfilled because she just does not know how to express them and she does not want to disappoint her family. When Naomi finally surrenders to her secret desires her life alters in a drastic way. Naomi puts her former self to rest and emerges as Belle. Belle becomes a wild woman of the undead, free to slate her urges and desires but she must learn how to control herself in her new life. Belle does not embrace her new found life and family of vampires with open arms. Will she realize that in a world of bloodthirsty creatures not everyone is the enemy?

Every Dark Desire would have been an okay read if Fiona Zedde had focused more on the story development minus all the sex scenes. Vampires are known to have carnal desires that are never fulfilled and that is understandable but never have I read a book that is not in anthology form, have sex scenes every few pages. There is a way to express that a character has engaged in sex without there having to be a scene about it. It got to a point where I began to skip over the sex scenes trying to find the story underneath. The little pieces of the story that were expressed happened to be pretty well-written. Sad to say this but at the ending of this book is when the story actually picks up and becomes interesting. I do not recommend this book to everyone unless you are looking for a book that is eighty-five percent sex scenes, fifteen percent story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Though I love the book...I expected a little more, December 23, 2008
This review is from: Every Dark Desire (Paperback)
I am a vampire and erotic fanatic and this book gave me both with the huge plus of the characters being black and lesbian. This is my first time reading this authors books and she did a great job. I was expecting a little more action and sometimes it was a little predictable. With the ending I hope there will be a follow up.

I was not interested in reading this book at first, although I read "Hungry For It" and liked it. I am not a big fan of vampires, but it turned out okay. I found it slow, waiting for the big bang that didn't come until the very end. I would have liked to know what happened with Belle and her daughter at the end. It was not as good as "Hungry For It", but a descent read.

I love the vampire theme cause it is always hot.
But needed to be more plot then sex.
Towards the end of the book is when it started to get good.
Now you left a cliffhanger, we have to know what happens between Belle and Kylie. hummm Part 2.

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay, the problem is..., November 15, 2008
This review is from: Every Dark Desire (Paperback)
...there is too much sex. Now, that is the strangest thing I have ever said, but in this case, its true. The story is fine and I can see how sex fits into that story, there is just too much of it. It is like a porno you have to read. Don't get me wrong, I did get...um...into it. I just think that it focused on that aspect too much. For example: there is a part in the book in which the two lead characters are running from a group of vamps trying to kill them. To add to the problem, the sun is comming. What do they do? Dig a deep hole in the snow and cover themselves over...and have sex. In a hole. Beneath the snow. After their entire family is annihilated. Without out any idea as to who was hit them. Read that again if you need to. Now, I know sex is a major part of this book, but why do they have to have sex at this time of all times. In a hole. Beneath the snow. After their entire family is annihilated. Without out any idea as to who was hit them. That is when you lose whatever point you were trying to make. After that, since the character's story had ridden in the backseat for so long, the book seemed as though it was in a mad dash to finish. It was an okay book though and the only African-American lesbian vampire novel I have found so far. You might enjoy it.

I am still in the process of reading this and it is just great. I have always loved a good vampire story and this book delievers. If True Blood is too boring for you then this book will pick up all the slack.

Fiona Zedde has yet to fail me when I am in need of a great read!

My book club chose Every Dark Desire as our last read. Everyone enjoyed reading the book and being given the ability, through reading Fionna Zedde's book to feel, taste, and smell the story of Naomi as her dark desire came to fruition. This book is loaded with excitement, female strength and lessons for all that listen to their desires without thinking of the consequenses.
