5.0 out of 5 stars Taking Fatherhood to the Next Level!
As a father I can attest that there is no handbook for being a Dad. Usually what I have learned has been from other fatherly role models that I have encountered within my own lives. Unfortunately all too often men do not have these role models within their lives. As the author states, fatherhood is in crisis, and with so many kids growing up in fatherless homes (even when...

Don't know if the people that endorsed this book actually read it, but this is by far out the worst book about parenting I have ever read.

The writing style is poor, many parts and 'tips' are contradictionary, advice is posed as questions, more than 200 points have to be followed to be the 'best dad', regardless of the situation you are in, etc. If I had to...

5.0 out of 5 stars Taking Fatherhood to the Next Level!, June 28, 2010
This review is from: Every Day Dad: The Guide to Becoming a Better Father (Paperback)
As a father I can attest that there is no handbook for being a Dad. Usually what I have learned has been from other fatherly role models that I have encountered within my own lives. Unfortunately all too often men do not have these role models within their lives. As the author states, fatherhood is in crisis, and with so many kids growing up in fatherless homes (even when they are present) it becomes even more important to have a guide, a manual per se that can give you an idea for directions or a compass to steer by. This book is hard hitting and addresses important ideas about what fatherhood is and should be. If you are a father, I would highly recommend that you read this book.

What I liked about this book was how easy it was to apply the concepts on a daily basis. You could easily see the passion that the author has for the subject of fatherhood, but also for helping others. I was drawn in by the personal stories that he shared with the reader. As a father of two, I cannot even imagine being a father of nine children... I can see how he would have stories to share.

The book is from the heart and truly attempts to connect with the reader beyond a surface level. The book is also practical, as it provides the reader with checklists, action steps and examples that help to guide fathers into being even better dads and men.

This book makes me want to listen even more to what this man has to say and I am sure that you will also find this to be true also!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Handbook for Dads, June 6, 2010
By
This review is from: Every Day Dad: The Guide to Becoming a Better Father (Paperback)
Finally - a handbook for Dads. Kids don't come with a workshop manual or installation instructions even though they are the most precious (and expensive) assets in our lives. Scott Hammond has filled that gap. He provides appropriate, applicable ways we can be great fathers.
The book is clearly a personal work drawn from Scott's family life (he and his wife have 9 kids) enhanced by his experiences as a sale professional; but this is more than a "Do what I did" or Don't do what I did" book. It's heartfelt, meaningful, and contains practical ways we can approach the challenges of fatherhood. Scott provides checklists, action steps and examples (the things guys can relate to) that help us and give us permission to be real fathers and still be "real men".
A terrific and timely book for Father's Day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyday Dad is a Gem!, June 15, 2010
This review is from: Every Day Dad: The Guide to Becoming a Better Father (Paperback)
Everyday Dad: The Guide to Becoming a Better Father is an exemplary book. It is a facile and fun read, documenting the life of a fantastic father and community role model. I have had the pleasure of reading this book and of listening to Scott Hammond speak on a number of occasions. To experience him in person is one thing and his energy, enthusiasm and joy translates in written form well! I highly recommend this book, particularly as a nice Father's Day gift!

5.0 out of 5 stars Evert Day Dad is a Winner, June 10, 2010
This review is from: Every Day Dad: The Guide to Becoming a Better Father (Paperback)
Every Day Dad is a winner. Scott Hammond's book incorporates Every Day Dad is a winner. Scott Hammond's book applies strategies and philosophies from the world of business to the "job" of being a father. That works. His book is full of helpful information. It's an easy read. I recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational and Informative, June 9, 2010
This review is from: Every Day Dad: The Guide to Becoming a Better Father (Paperback)
The fact that the author is a father of nine immediately adds weight and depth to his message. Hammond's balance of humility, humor, and wisdom makes his book the kind of must-read you don't want to end. Hearing Scott speak makes me wish every Dad could hear his inspiring story full of practical insights. Scott clearly is on a mission to provide a guiding light for "every day" Dads, but his book is for anyone who cares about kids and the future of our world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real advice for real dads, June 9, 2010
This review is from: Every Day Dad: The Guide to Becoming a Better Father (Paperback)
I was the single father of two boys. I virtually raised them by myself. And, all the while, I compared myself unrealistically to the "perfect father." Of course, I always fell short. Then I felt bad. Then I became disillusioned. I could not seem to find advice that was realistic, manageable, and "doable."

Every Day Dad is aimed at "real dads," the average man who wants to do right by his children, his family, his community - and for himself. It reminds us that the different parts of our lives do not take place in isolation; rather they are all interwoven and the key to being a successful father is not to do everything perfectly (an impossibility) but to continue to do things better.

Scott's stories, his advice, and his insights make that process simpler, easier, and more rewarding. In addition to reminding us of what's important, he shows us how to manage our time and our priorities to accomplish these vital objectives.

This is a book for any man who has ever been a father, who plans on becoming one, or who has had one. You will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Needed Now ... More Than Ever, June 7, 2010
This review is from: Every Day Dad: The Guide to Becoming a Better Father (Paperback)
Fatherhood is in crisis. Too many kids are growing up without fathers at all ... or if they're around, they're absent or distant. And the cost to our culture is staggering. This book gets past all the fluff and right down to the good stuff ... what you can actually do to be a better father. And if you're at all interested in leaving a legacy for your children, you need to read this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst 'self help' book ever..., October 12, 2010

Don't know if the people that endorsed this book actually read it, but this is by far out the worst book about parenting I have ever read.

The writing style is poor, many parts and 'tips' are contradictionary, advice is posed as questions, more than 200 points have to be followed to be the 'best dad', regardless of the situation you are in, etc. If I had to follow all these points I would be an Every Day Dead.

I mean, when you read about 90 points to be a good husband (see the shift of focus, from a dad to a husband...) at the end of the book: point a) buy flowers for your wife, point b) give them to your wife... No, I will give them to my neighbour instead. Or should I add points like c) place them in a vase, d) clean up the mess/ wrapping, etc.

Books that guide people by questions, by which they can reflect on their own situation, can help. This book is not like that, so better look for something else.
