5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Little Book!
Just yesterday, I had to put down my best friend of over 14 years. A very good friend of mine gave me a copy of this book that very morning, she knew how much this old dog meant to me.
I read it and even though I cried like a baby, it left me with a good feeling.
I recommend this book for adults even more than for kids... if you have ever or are about to lose...

3.0 out of 5 stars more for a child than an adult
I was looking for more of an adult book but it was a quick and easy read. If you have a child who is dealing with the death of a pet, this would be a nice and comforting book for them.

I recommend this book for adults even more than for kids... if you have ever or are about to lose your dog, it's warmth and simplicity make it very comforting and therapeutic.
I took it with me to the vet's office, and before the deed was done, I laid down next to my old guy on the office floor and read it to him, and told him how one day we'd be together again. I think he understood.
People can be transient, hypocritical, downright nasty and fleeting with their emotions and affections. The love of a dog for it's person, however, is possibly the purest, simplest and most honest love on this earth. Dogs are the kind of creatures that can make even the most skeptical believe in the existence of a higher power. Their love is absolutely unconditional and utterly faithful. God bless these beautiful, unique and wonderful animals... they abide...

5.0 out of 5 stars "Forever pets" and their "forever people" will reunite, August 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: For Every Dog an Angel (Hardcover)

The author wrote this God-blessed little book after having a wonderful vision of her beloved dog Martha in the arms of an angel; it turned her bereavement into inspiration. It should lift the heart and spirit of anyone who reads it.

I would like to make several recommendations here since there is no category as of yet specifically on animal afterlife, on-line (or in any other lists for that matter).

Because of this and the fact that there are so few books written on this subject, those in grief over the loss of a pet often find themselves desperately searching, and miss out. I would therefore like to list all the books that I know of dealing with afterlife of animals. Amazon.com has sites on all of them. You can visit each site to learn more on each respective title.

"Cold Noses at the Pearly Gates".Excellently done:inspired compassionate, fully-Biblical

"The Soul of Your Pet". Convincing, credible evidence regarding animals' existing after death.Interactions with pets that have passed on. Will defy skeptics.

"Will I See Fido in Heaven?". Solidly Christian, inspired, loving.

"For Every Dog an Angel". Angel stays with pup from birth, on. Written for children, adults will love even more. Wonderful!

"Dog Heaven". For children; adults will enjoy as well

"Cat Heaven" Children/adults

"All Dogs Go to Heaven". Well-known, has a story-line.

4.0 out of 5 stars If you are touched by The Rainbow Bridge, this will too, December 8, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: For Every Dog an Angel (Hardcover)
Not everyone understands the loss of a pet can affect you as deeply as losing one of your own children. This book is for the people who 'get' it.

I bought it originally for my husband's mother who lost her beloved dog, but he felt it was too juvenile to send to her. On the contrary, I found it sweet, whimsical and touching. I eventually gave it to a friend who was looking for a greeting card to send to another couple who had recently lost two dogs - They loved it.

It is a small, short book, beautifully illustrated in watercolor and easily read by a wide range of ages. The only dissapointment I felt is that it is basically an expanded story of the Rainbow Bridge, which if you've gone through the pain of losing a pet, and are reading this, you have probably already read it on several websites.

The book however puts it in a format that makes it convenient for giving to someone else instead of sympathy cards, which while there is more selection for pet-loss nowdays, simply don't cover it, or still come across as being written by someone who just doesn't understand what the fuss is about but feels the need to try and comfort the recipient.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful gift for someone who has lost a pet, June 13, 2001
By
This review is from: For Every Dog an Angel (Hardcover)
I've purchased three copies of this book so far and am thinking about having a couple on hand for the occasion when someone has lost a beloved pet. It expresses beautiful sentiment and provides much needed comfort and hope. It's very appropriate for a family with children, but also is nice for adults, too. I highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a wonderful little book, May 9, 2001

If you have lost a special pet, no matter what your age, you need this book. Even though it is a children's book, it helped me find comfort in my grief over losing my special little guy. In the book, Christine Davis, describes the very special dog in your life as your "Forever Dog" and that you will see him or her again, along with all of your other pets, when you cross the angel bridge. I have bought a number of copies and given them as gifts to people who have lost their pets. Everyone has been touched by this absolutely wonderful little book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Simply Beautiful Inspiring Book for Grieving a Lost Pet, May 11, 2000
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: For Every Dog an Angel (Hardcover)
I lost my ten-year old golden 1 1/2 years ago. She was not only my friend, but a part of my family. I miss her every day. If you feel you had a connection to your pet, this book will reconfirm those feelings. It gave me comfort and left me with a warm feeling in my heart about my lost friend. This book will make you smile and cry about the loss of your pet. The book is about the connection you have with your dog, and that not only do dogs have guardian angels, but they are our guardian angels. It is not a religious book, yet it will touch you deeply. I believe my friend is still with me, and now I know that I am not alone in that feeling. It made me smile, brought a tear to my eye, and comfort to my heart. A beautiful book.

5.0 out of 5 stars For Every Dog an Angel, March 10, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: For Every Dog an Angel (Hardcover)
I have never lived without a pet in my life since the day I was born. For the first 18 years of my life I had only owned dogs. From then on I have had dogs and cats, but I had one special dog who was and always will be my "forever dog". Reading that book gave me hope that we will be together again someday. He has been in heaven 15 years now and I pick up and read that book at least once or twice a month. It has helped me to deal with the loss of my best friend and I know he is always watching over me.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "must read" book for dog people., July 9, 1999

I ordered this book when a friend of mine lost her 11 year old Golden Retriever. Her daughter was having difficulty accepting the dogs passing, and I was looking for a book to help explain this process to a child. Once I got the book, I found that it was much more than a book on bereavement. The story is truly beautiful and very touching. It can be enjoyed equally by children and adults. I've recommended it to all my "dog" friends and it has been very well received. If you have ever loved a dog, you should read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blessing in Loss of a Beloved Pet, March 30, 2001
By
Sally Potts (Fresno, Ca USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: For Every Dog an Angel (Hardcover)
Recently, at work one of the bosses lost not only her beloved dog but her beloved father in law in a matter of days. I gave her this book and advised her not to read it until she was where no one would see her cry. She waited several days and came back and told me that not only had she cried but her husband as well when they read this book. The day after Xmas 2000 I lost my Lhasa Apso who was my companion and joy for the last 12 years. I had to order a new book and could hardly wait until it arrived for the comfort that I knew it would bring. Again, I let someone read it and they wanted one to send to a friend whose dog is ill. I took it to work this morning and a close friend's dog went to heaven last night. Well, I just had to give him the copy that I had brought to work. I now again do not have a copy. I am again ordering this book for myself. I know that when someone again suffers the loss of their beloved pet, I will share my book with them. I thank you for writing this wonderful book.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book has a special meaning to young and old, September 21, 2003

This review is from: For Every Dog an Angel (Hardcover)
As a 60-something physician I first read this book. I have recommended it to many of my adult patients who have lost a pet as one of the most valuable sources of comfort that is available to help them get through their grief period. This not just a children's book. It's text should be considered gentle, not juvenile.
Christine Davis has provided a valuable service by writing this book. I was happy to see that a companion piece for cats has also been published. Thank you, Christine, for helping us cope with the profound loss of a companion.
