Editorial Reviews

Mitch turned over most of the production chores over to John Leckie on this 1988 album, and the result was the hardest-rocking Let’s Active record of them all, but one still retaining Easter’s whimsical and wonderful songwriting touch. Includes both the original, Easter-produced versions as well as new bonus, Leckie-produced versions of 'Sweepstakes Winner' and 'Bad Machinery'; Every Dog Has His Day; Horizon; Orpheus in Hades Lounge; Mr. Fool; Ten Layers Down; Too Bad; Night Train; Forty Years; I Feel Funny', and 'Terminate'. A 'Collectors’ Choice Music' exclusive!

5.0 out of 5 stars What's in a Name?, January 5, 2006

This review is from: Every Dog Has His Day (Audio CD)
I grew up in Winston-Salem, so Let's Active were hometown heroes of mine. From what I've heard, and choose to believe, the name Let's Active comes from a mis-translation of "Let's Get Physical," seen (presumably by a member of the band) on a Japanese t-shirt written "Let's Active." So the band name, like the music it produced, is genius. This was their swan song and is probably their most "rock" album. "Big Plans. .." should have been their first commercial success and this should have been their "sell-out" follow-up. And maybe in some alternate (better) universe, it was. If you want to learn where a whole bunch of today's hip bands were weened, check out Let's Active. It may take a few listens to get into Mitch Easter's unique (original) vocal stylings, but you cannot deny the rock.

5.0 out of 5 stars umm...., November 3, 2005

Let's Active is a fantastic band name. Sorry I just had to say that. I've had this album since I was in my late teens and the older I get the more I realize how much this particular song writing technique has influenced me. Mitch crafts tight cohesive arrangements that feel like an amusment park ride designed for both thrills and contemplation. Great american rock and roll.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant Surprise, December 26, 2011

Downloaded the title track based on an iTunes genius recommendation, loved the song and listened to some of the track samples and decided to take a chance on the CD. This CD is consistently excellent, loaded with plenty of catchy tunes. Never heard of this band in their day, as I was near the end of my music buying days in the late 80's, but as I revisit the music of that era, I am excited to find new and interesting groups like Let's Active. Give it a try - you will like it!
