4.0 out of 5 stars A Very Overlooked Album By An Overlooked Band
In the days of big hair and big rockin' hits there were many great bands that were overlooked...This was the case with Salty Dog, I was blown away when i first heard this group, I was in junior high and a friend of mine turned me on to this album, of course that was back in the days when cassettes were the big thing, Side B of the cassette was undoubtably better than Side...

4.0 out of 5 stars A Very Overlooked Album By An Overlooked Band, July 28, 2005
This review is from: Every Dog Has Its Day (Audio CD)
In the days of big hair and big rockin' hits there were many great bands that were overlooked...This was the case with Salty Dog, I was blown away when i first heard this group, I was in junior high and a friend of mine turned me on to this album, of course that was back in the days when cassettes were the big thing, Side B of the cassette was undoubtably better than Side A, So I guess the last five or six tracks on the cd are the choice cuts. "Lonesome Fool" my favorite song on the album is worth checking out just for the banjo....thats right, I said banjo. Also "Sacrifice Me" is a killer power ballad (how was this song not a hit?)....So if you were into Kix, Skid Row, Slaughter & Britny Fox..Here's one you will dig.

From someone who lived the scene.. This classic is superior in so many ways.. Back when music meant something special- evoked exact emotion.. RAW and un-contrieved as un-like that of today.. Track 12 is the ballad.. I beg you to find a better fitting.. Raw emotion will errupt you..

5.0 out of 5 stars NOW I UNDERSTAND !!!, October 23, 2011
This review is from: Every Dog Has It's Day (Audio CD)

Salty Dog has instantly become a favorite with me ! I love different things and hearing bands go in other directions but doing it with good rock n roll and thats Salty Dog. It took some talent to write these little ditty songs but then to go and put some serious rock in there to back them up with some bad ass guitar. Now add some slide and even a banjo on one song and these guys get some rocking done. While some of it reminds me of earlier 70s stuff and even some Zeppelin here and there it just surprises me. Now I understand the almost cultish following that this cd has. Yeah just like Sea Hags , Valentine Saloon, and a few others that only put out one cd this is one to absolutely have in the collection. It youve hesitated like I have on this cd wait no longer you'll love it !

4.0 out of 5 stars Great 80's rock album, August 11, 2011
This review is from: Every Dog Has It's Day (Audio CD)
If you are/were into 80's rock this is a pretty good one to have. I had the cassette and I have been waiting for a reissue or the price to drop. Anyone that heard this album know what I am talking about. It will be added to my collection soon... yes, soon, it will be mine again.

Salty Dog were a pretty impressive band to come along in the early 90's, they shared some sounds with the LA bands, but offered something a little different than your average Poison or Ratt record of the day.

Every Dog Has It's Day is an almost flawless hard rock album. Every song brings a uniqueness and flavor to the album that just continues to build until the last track. Salty Dog, in my own opinion, are a band that should have rocketed to fame & fortune back in the late 80's/early 90's, however, in-fighting and serious drug abuse wrecked the train before it ever got rolling. Sad as their demise was, Salty Dog still released one heck of a record with Every Dog Has It's Day. My favorite tracks from the album are Lonesome Fool, Come Along, Cat's Got Nine, Just Like A Woman and Ring My Bell. Like I said earlier though, every song is outstanding.

Every Dog Has It's Day has been re-released and remastered, which actually sucks for me, I bought it when it was still out of print and paid 27 dollars for it. Moving on though, the sound quality is improved, and it makes an awesome record even better. Get it while it's still available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why is this their only album?, August 6, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Every Dog Has Its Day (Audio CD)
This CD is great! I did not get to listen to quite all of the CD as it was a gift for a very good friend; however, I was impressed by what I heard. I am surprised that this band did not make another album! The company I ordered it from was also great to work with. I received the CD within two to three days after I ordered it. Yay!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Glam Band, August 2, 2010
This review is from: Every Dog Has Its Day (Audio CD)
I discovered Salty Dog as a 15 year old from my friend. We hung out on Sunset Strip every weekend, and were as deep in the scene as a couple of 15 year olds could be. There are very few, and let me emphasis on few bands I can seriously listen to from that era as a 35 year old woman. I mean Pretty Boy Floyd is just ridiculous and lame and you can't listen to it seriously besides a trip down memory lane. Salty Dog however, is still not bad. It's good quality music and the lyrics are good. It's unfortunate that they didn't make it big, because I'd say they had what it took. Definitely a keeper CD for me and one I pop in every so often.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's had it's day but still worth a listen, September 18, 2005
This review is from: Every Dog Has Its Day (Audio CD)
I remember buying this when I was about 15 (some years ago now)
It was something different to what I'd been used to. But it was raw, bluesey, and quite funky. The broad and brash guitar licks and wicked solos are what really made this album good. The singer's voice was ok, but had it's bad moments too
