Grade 2-4-This useful book opens with a brief introduction that explains Earth Day and states that we need to keep our planet healthy, followed by instructions for 20 crafts that reflect an interest in recycling and/or using everyday materials. Activities range from simple scratch pads made from scrap paper to a "good earth necklace." Each craft is introduced by a simple statement such as "We need clean, fresh air to breathe," or an introductory statement related to the project itself. Materials are clearly listed and include such recyclable items as old puzzle pieces, plastic bottles, and used socks, as well as standard art items such as scissors, glue, and paint. The instructions are numbered and illustrated in bright, attractive colors. Most of these projects would translate easily to the classroom. While some of them are useful, many are purely decorative; but that doesn't keep them from being fun and worthwhile.
