Editorial Reviews

The history of Seven Tears dates back to the earliest years of the 21st century, when two 13 year old schoolboys, Jonathan Carlemar and Fredrik Lager, decided to form a Power Metal band called Demonslave. The 1st line-up never managed to reach out to the crowd as intended. They continued to write catchy power metal songs and the break-through came when they decided to let a female vocalist, Elin Johansson, join them. Fredrik moved from vocals to bass. The amazing Michael Sjöö (Spearfish, Fantasy Child) joined as a new drummer and Martin Rydlund took place behind the keyboards. This new line-up was known as "Atlantica" and they released their first self-titled demo in Oct 2005. Maestro Kristofer von Wachenfeldt (Platitude, Fantasy Child, Neon Diver) took Mr. Rydlund's place on keyboards and brought the bands song-writing skills and musicianship to a whole new level. After some vocalist changes, the current line-up, with Jonathan Carlemar (guitars), Fredrik Lager (bass), Kristofer von Wachenfeldt (keyboards) and Michael Sjöö (drums), started to work in a complete different musical direction and decided to change the name to "Seven Tears" which seemed to fit their new, more mature style. They were thrilled to get back on track again and asked the singer Zoran Djorem to join them. The demo "The Story Unfolds" became their first release together. Zoran was the ultimate singer for Seven Tears, with his gritty and passionate vocal style. The demo contained a unique mixture of Dark Melodic Metal and an AOR-feeling with some prog-elements. The mixture of different styles from the member's musical past gives the band a unique sound towards today's rock/metal bands. The music can easily be described as "Evergrey meets Journey". Tracks: 1. Twist of Fate 2. Faded Memory 3. Hollow Ground 4. Reflections 5. All Alone 6. In Every Frozen Tear 7. Sorrows 8. Prayer For The Dying 9. The Story Unfolds 10.Dream of Insanity 11.Fragments 12.Truth of Tomorrow

4.0 out of 5 stars First class melodic hard rock/metal, May 16, 2008
This review is from: In Every Frozen Tear (Audio CD)
Released in late 2007 (and distributed in the US in 2008 by Locomotive Records), In Every Frozen Tear is the debut album from Swedish melodic metal band Seven Tears (though they had previously released demos under the name Atlantica). The band has a highly melodic, somewhat progressive sound that treads a fine line between rock and metal.

The closest comparison to Seven Tears' sound is Australian band Vanishing Point. Seven Tears has the same level of heavy guitar work, atmospheric keyboards, and singer Zoren Djorem's emotional midrange vocals are reminiscent of Silvio Massaro's (though without Massaro's range). They probably sound too similar to Vanishing Point at times, but it's their first album so I can give them the benefit of a doubt. In Every Frozen Tear is a heavier album than you'd typically expect from the Frontiers label, but it's also a highly melodic album and has some of the AOR/melodic rock aspects that Frontiers is so well known for. I can see it picking up melodic rock fans that might not go for an all-out metal band, and vice versa.

Fans of Vanishing Point and Nightingale will get the most out of this album, but it should appeal to anyone who enjoys Vanden Plas, Cloudscape, Jorn, Pretty Maids, and other high quality melodic hard rock and metal bands.

Wow,now this is some melodic bliss with crunch ,I'd give this 5 stars if the production was better.I love the cascading guitar solos and slightly gruff melodic vocals.like Journey with a Symphony X influence! A very Fine Debut, can't wait for more!
