4.0 out of 5 stars More Great 60s Garage Rock from Norway December 2, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
If you like 60’s garage rock and you like girl bands, you will love The Launderettes. As best I can tell, “Every Heart Is A Time Bomb” was the second full length release from The Launderettes, which was an all girl band for this recording, though not for their first, “Shaken and Disturbed.” Roughly half of the songs on “Every Heart Is A Time Bomb” are propelled by driving guitar and bass lines and powerful backbeats, which is reminiscent of the majority of the songs from their debut CD. By contrast, there also are a few mellower songs on this CD, songs that still are up-tempo, but are poppier, less punkish (more Go Gos, less Donnas) and incorporate more harmonizing. Most of the songs include swirling organ fills and jangly guitar riffs, creating an overall psychedelic power pop sound. The lyrics are catchy, especially “What Would Joan Jett Do?” and still are filled with lots of attitude. It’s unfortunate that more people don’t know about this really enjoyable girl band from Norway. Hopefully that will change with their recent 2013 release, “Getaway,” which I ordered today, and apparently has been featured on Little Steven’s Garage radio show. Highly recommended.
