This bible is what I have been looking for my whole life. As a godly man, I wanted a Bible that was easy to read and applicable to my life. This Bible does that and more. The study notes, the someone you should know and the men and women sidebars are so awesome to read. They have a 1 year Bible plan at the front of the Bible that I have been following this year. 2.0 out of 5 stars Content good - font terrible
I really liked this bible, the content, sidebar notes, intros all seem to be very helpful. However the size and color of the typeface, a sort of gray, doesn't contrast with the off white paper and makes this bible impossible to read for any extended period. Would be a great bible if it were printed in a more readable font.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sheena, October 17, 2005
I bought this for my husband as a gift and he really loves is. Whats surprising is that I have been reading it just as much. There are different topics also discussed throughout the bible, like drinking, homosexuality, marriage, women, etc. There are key verses written to go with this subject right there, so you don't have to go seaching yourself, they did it for you.

I also really like the flow of the NLT, its easy to read but I feel a very credible translation. In the beginning it is eplained how this translation was done.

This bible also has excerpts throughout from some great Christian leaders, including Chuck Swindoll. I've never enjoyed reading the Bible more until this one came along.

5.0 out of 5 stars For Everyone, July 20, 2005
I bought this for my husband and have never seen him enjoy reading the Bible as he does now. The information at the beginning of each book is great: about how long it will take to read the book, summary of the chapters, key verses for memorizing, who it was written by (if known) and it places the events in a timeline. It's wonderful! I have even started reading out if it myself! It's a great Bible, I highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Every Man's Bible Reviewed, September 12, 2009
This review is from: Every Man's Bible (Every Man's Series) (Paperback)
Every Man's Bible is jam packed with study notes, essays, sidebars, charts, graphs, and what the editors call "Personal Gold," described as snapshots from Christian books about men living the Christian life.

The inserts and material are non-traditional with topics like "What the Bible Says About Sports," What the Bible Says About Getting Old," What the Bible says about Failure," "What the Bible Says About Money," and "What the Bible says about Competition." The language is contemporary and the graphics are prominent, appropriate for a younger male audience.

As a specialty Bible, it is broader in scope than you might initially think. I would actually describe it more as a "Life Application Study Bible" for men because the focus is on applying biblical principles to day-to-day life. In that respect, it works well. If I had a teenage boy, I would give it to him as required reading. Come to think of it, I might give it to my daughter when she reaches about 16 or 17 so she knows what to expect from her male peers and/or suitors.

The format is not for everybody. If you don't like graphics, inserts, and other modern features that make publications busier, you will probably find the format distracting. I have written before that I personally prefer thinlines or text-only Bibles for personal reading and church going. However, I have several heaftier Bibles for at-home use. This Bible is a hybrid. It has the additional stuff of a large study Bible, but the size of a personal-sized, mid-width Bible.

The hardcover edition is sturdy and will hold up to considerable wear. It is also considerably less expensive. The Tu-tone, imitation leather edition is attractive and suited to young men. In other words, it's a Bible a young man would look cool carrying.

I would highly recommend Every Man's Bible for the any or all of the following:

* Young men (teens, college age)
* Newly married (men and women)
* Single men
* Parents of teenage boys
* Youth organizations
* Youth pastors and leaders
* Young women who want insight into men
* Newbie Christians (men and couples)
* Anyone counseling young men (or couples)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great study Bible, March 23, 2006
This review is from: Every Man's Bible (Every Man's Series) (Paperback)
I used this Bible in our Christian book club, and people were asking about it during the second week, because of the footnotes that relate Biblical truths to modern lives. Now, I am using it for our new men's Bible study (I chose the every man's Bible study), and this is a great resource for that.

As for this being a poor translation, our pastor reads from the NIV during his sermons, and I follow along in my NLT. The meanings are the same, the phrasing is just different.

Every new Christian man who wants an extremely readable and relevant ranslation would do good buying this version. I am recommending this to my men's group.

Wow, what an amazing way to read the bible. I've never read the Bible because I have no background with religion and this book allowed me to come in with a clean slate and actually understand what I am reading! I would highly recommend this for beginners!

5.0 out of 5 stars best bible I have ever had, November 17, 2010
When I bought the man's bible, I had hoped that it wopuld be easy to read and would fit my budget. Wbhat I got was a wonderful study bible that gets better every time I use it. Notes and outlines in the bible are very practical and draw the reader further into a productyive study of the bible. The bioble';s small size makes it perfect to take along to church. There are no colorful maps in the back of the bible, but maps are found in the boody of the study notes whenever they are appropriate. I found this confusing at first, but then I realized that bioble maps can and should be studied where they are appropriate. This bible is a great buy for anyone who is seeking to know more about his (articles are focused on things that would helpmen live a life more directed by God) life as a seeker for God.

4.0 out of 5 stars Helpful study Bible, September 6, 2009
This review is from: Every Man's Bible (Every Man's Series) (Paperback)
I received Every Man's Bible from Tyndale for review. I thought, "Reviewing a Bible should be fairly simple." I was wrong. But I'll take a stab at it.

This Bible is part of the Every Man's series which began with the book Every Man's Battle by Stephen Arterburn, Fred Stoeker, and Mike Yorkey. That book dealt with sexual tempation. This Bible tackles a broader range of subjects like homosexuality , drinking, marriage, women, etc.

In addition, the Bible provides a simple introduction to each book, with standard information like author and date, as well as suggestions of key verses to be learned from the book, approximate time of reading, and so forth. Those looking for in-depth scholarly discussion will be disappointed, but the information is useful for beginning students. Also included are a Bible reading plan and a topical index.

Those looking for a first Bible should look elsewhere. The articles and study aids, while helpful, intrude extensively on the text. I wish more of the articles had been printed on a half page, allowing the biblical text to flow from page to page. Because of that, Every Man's Bible should only be used as an additional study Bible, not as the primary version read. The translation used is the New Living Translation. (This is not the original NLT, but a later revision)

The choice of using shades of brown throughout the book was not a wise one. The print size will also limit this Bible's usability by older readers.

I'd highly recommend this Bible for younger Christians, especially young men. Follow the reading plan, read the articles, and, above all, study the text.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good notes, June 16, 2009
This review is from: Every Man's Bible (Every Man's Series) (Paperback)
Pleasantly surprised would be the way I would describe my reading in Every Man's Bible.
The reason for surprise? It was good!
I honestly expected to find syrupy-sweet platitudes that would serve to present an effeminate Christianity. It seems that there is so much feminizing of men in the church that one gets a very skeptical and cynical spirit toward men's resources. Thankfully, this book is for men.
Every Man's Bible deals with sin as sin. It deals with transgression as truly wrong. It presents the grace of God to us as forgiving grace, but reminds us that we cannot presume upon grace and mistreat God.
The notes within this Bible present to us a fairly balanced picture of Biblical manhood. It calls for men to stand strong against sin, and reminds men that we must also be tender and fight against the tendency to be harsh.
The contributors list is like a Who's Who of Christian writers and speakers.
The size of the Bible is nice as well as the layout and type-face.
If I were to find one problem it would be the fact that they used the NLT. I simply do not have a fondness for that translation, preferring a more formal equivalence translation.
All in all, this is what I would consider a good supplemental Bible to use in reference and devotions. I like the notes, but would prefer to do my primary studying in another version.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this Bible, October 24, 2008
I own many different study Bibles in many different versions. Each one has a different focus. I find the focus of the "Every Man's Bible" extremely important for today's man. We need to better understand what Goad intended when He created man. This Bible speaks directly to the many issues and challenges that directly impact men. I will be using this Bible with my boys as I workto teach them how to be godly men. I love the NLV; it is very easy to read and is a good compliment to the NIV. There are many extras features that are wonderful for deeper study. I especially enjoy the "Someone You Should Know" feature. This Bible was well worth the purchase price.
