5.0 out of 5 stars IF YOU LIKE THE 'UNKNOWNS', November 10, 2003
This review is from: Every Mothers Nightmare (Audio CD)
I'm a fan of rock...and back during the time these guys came out, I was enjoying sampling a bit of everybody.
This album had a good sound. It was my favorite for many years even though pretty much no one heard of them. Truthfully, I thought they had a sound that really kicked some ass.
If you were to buy an Every Mother's Nightmare cd, this would be the one to buy. They came out with a fresh sound and weren't struggling so hard to be heard...it was more of a 'let's see what they think' kind of album. Maybe these guys weren't the best with writing lyrics and all that, but the lead singer could sing.
I bought their 'Wake Up Screaming' later on down the road and have to say that was quite the dissapointment....totally copying all the other bands to 'fit in'...get 'something' on the radio...didn't work.....but I think they could of had something if they would of kept with the sound of this one....the self'titled....I think they definitely deserved radio play for "Love Can Make You Blind"..but hey....I got a thing for the long-haired babes in jeans and great voices......seriously though, for the eighties and nineties era...this album was pretty good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Overlooked Album, worth buying., October 7, 2010
This review is from: Every Mothers Nightmare (Audio CD)
Every Mother's Nightmare is a very overlooked album that fits mostly into the hair metal category except much darker and heavier. "Walls Come Down" the best song on the album is a super-heavy screamin' rockin' song. Rick Ruhl, the singer has a very unique voice and gives the album a bit of a southern edge (They Are From Tennessee). "Love Can Make You Blind" is a cover of Charlie Daniels and gave the band a top 15 single. In my opinion it isnt the best, the same goes to "Long Haired Country Boy" another cover on the album. There are many other rockers on the album such as "Bad On Love" and "Hard To Hold". This album is most similar to Skid Row's first album, so if you're a fan of Skid Row, I strongly recomend this album. Overall this album earns a 4 out of 5 stars.

Every Mothers Nightmare released their debut album at a most inopportune time. Grunge was seeping into the main-stream, flannel-clad rockers were replacing spandex and leather, and party-metal, like that which EMN played was being squeezed out of the public eye. What really sucked for EMN was, they actually put a pretty decent record out to the public, but of course most people did'nt give a damn.

EMN's self-titled record was not exactly five-stars, does that make it bad? Well, no, is the easiest answer. The record is pretty good, they just added a little to much filler to make it one of the better records of the genre. EMN recorded some outstanding tracks on this album. The cover of Long-Haired Country Boy, a Charlie Daniels Band original, is easily the best song on the album. Other highlights include Ez Come Ez Go, Walls Come Down, Hard To Hold, and Love Can Make You Blind, the obligatory ballad on the album.

This album is well worth purchasing, the problem is sometimes it's hard to find, and the price is idiotic. I would'nt break myself buying this album, but if you find it cheap give it a listen.

Reminds me a little of Shotgun Messiah on the Second Coming CD, the vocals kind of have a punk feel. I didn't hear the southern sound in it other than the cover of Long Hair Country Boy, sounds like they could be an L.A. band. This one is worth a try, its just as good if not better than a lot of the other bands you know from this era.
