Wrongly convicted of murdering his step father, Reed's been released from prison after serving a 15 year sentence. Though he earned a college degree and nearly a master's, the only job he can get is as a mechanic at his cousin's garage. He is dedicated to finding the real culprit behind the murder, regardless of the cost. When judge Ella Porter, daughter of the DA that put Reed away starts receiving nasty letters similar to the ones Reed sent to her while in prison, she confronts him, not realizing that someone sinister will stop at nothing to make sure Reed is back in jail. Ella has always been drawn to Reed, and finds that the forbidden passion he promises is too much to resist. Reed doesn't count on actually falling for the daughter of his enemy, and soon she's joining him in his quest for the truth, much to her parent's displeasure (yes, she's 30 and still lives at home!).
Could it be Ella's father Webb Porter, now a senator with a roving eye and zipper, and a shared past with Reed's mother; could it be Judy, Reed's harried mother who suffered greatly at the hands of her sadistic husband; could it be Reed's sister Regina, whose near rape at the hands of her stepfather have cause irreparable damage; or could it be Ella's aunt and uncle who also share a sordid past with the deceased. With plenty of suspects, the two have their work cut out for them! Ella and Reed make a striking duo. And boy does this couple sizzle! Barton's gothic tale of murder, forgiveness, and love has plenty to keep you entertained, though I felt there were far too many romantic entanglements for a single novel, causing some of them to not be as developed as they could have been.

Who is writing those nasty letters?,

This review is from: Every Move She Makes (Paperback)
Reed Conway was convicted 15 years ago for the murder of his abusive step-father. Out on parole, he has just arrived back in his hometown determined to find the real murderer. And, boy is everyone watching his every move! Including the murderer! Senator Web Porter, who was DA at the time of the murder and was instrumental in prosecuting Reed, has a daughter who is now judge- Ella Porter. Ella was attracted to Reed in school when Reed had the reputation of "bad boy/bad news." Reed noticed Ella but knew she was off limits due to her daddy. But now the table has changed - Reed and Ella are in their thirties, are mature adults able to think for themselves, and, boy, is the attraction strong. Too strong to resist! To complicate things - 15 years ago to get back at Porter, Reed wrote a couple of explicit sexual letters to Ella from prison. Well, now that Reed is back in town Ella has started receiving letters again - but Reed isn't writing them. The "suspect of murder" list grows in leaps and bounds - it turns out to be a "peyton place" southern town where everyone is involved with everyone's wife and is trying to cover something up. There is sizzling romance, secondary characters to keep it from getting dull, and suspence of "who did it." I enjoyed it, my first BB book to read and I will read more of her books. I thoroughly enjoyed Reed. Ella seemed whimpy a little. It was wierd her living with her parents at her age and holding a such an important position as Judge. Would I recommend it? Yes!

A good romantic suspense...,
This review is from: Every Move She Makes (Paperback)
Almost twenty years after he was convicted or murder, Reed Conway has been released and has sworn that he will find the person responsible for murdering his stepfather. The number one name on his list of suspects is the man that convicted him, Webb Porter. Esteemed senator and doting father, Webb seems like an unlikely suspect. The longer that he is out of prison, the more it looks like someone is determined to send him back. He finds an unexpected ally in Ella Porter, Webb's daughter, whom he feels more for than he ever expected.Ella Porter can't decide if he's guilty or not. On one hand she is convinced that her father would never go after an innocent man. On the other hand the more time she spends with Reed, the more she doesn't think that he is capable of murder. Aside from the almost animal attraction for him, she tells Reed that she will help him prove his innocence. Every Move She Makes is classic Barton. Although Ella was a little wimpy for me, always thinking 'run, Ella, run', I still enjoyed the plot as well as most of the characters.

A touch of suspense, a dose of mystery and a lot of romance,
By
This review is from: Every Move She Makes (Paperback)
When Ella Porter was sixteen, her father, Webb Porter, a successful prosecutor at the time, put behind bars an eighteen year old who killed his stepfather. Once Reed Conway was sent to prison, and to infuriate Webb, Reed sent a couple of very sexual letters to Ella before Webb put a stop to his letter-writing privileges.
Fifteen years later, Reed Conway is finally leaving prison...for good behavior, and he's determined to discover the identity of the person who slit his stepfather's throat and left him to take the blame. At the same time, Ella, now a circuit court judge, has started receiving sexual letters again. Of course, it's obvious Reed is behind it. Right? The killer is desperate to send Reed back to prison, so terrorizing Ella begins to escalate from mere letter writing to phone calls and eventually to murder. I enjoyed the suspense of this one, including Ella and Reed's obvious attraction to each other. I love Beverly Barton's prose. She creates such memorable characters and such wonderful twisty plotlines. I was thoroughly entertained. My reason for rating this book only four out of five is because this is not my favorite Barton book. I think her later works are much better.

What a great book. I have never read a book by this author before but I will now look into her other books. I got very caught up in the characters and stayed up too late many a night to find out what happens. Reed is a great bad boy and makes for a steamy read.

This is one of the best books I've ever read. It's right up there with my favorite book, "Slow Heat In Heaven" by Sandra Brown. If you liked "SHIH" you're gonna adore this one. If you like your books to have suspense, fabulous sensuality and be a great love story then this is for you. What a story Ms. Barton has come up with. ...All of the secondary characters are well developed too. This book is set in the South and that is another thing that is interesting to me. These seem like real people. I bought this book in hard cover because it was a keeper to be treasured. ...

Another sizzling murder mystery by Beverly Barton,
By
This review is from: Every Move She Makes (Paperback)
Every Move She Makes is another romantic murder mystery by Beverly Barton, the premiere author of "The Protectors" series. Reed Conway has just been released from serving 15 years for the murder of his stepfather. Now that he is out, it is time to go back to his hometown to find the real killer. The years spent in prison have not been easy for Reed, but he is a survivor. Ella Porter, the daughter of the man who sent Reed to prison, is a thirty year old judge. As a shy teenager, she had a crush on Reed, the star athlete who was also "a bad boy". Unknown to her, Reed was aware of her in high school, but did not attempt to date her. Angered by his conviction, Reed sent Ella a few letters before he went to prison which frightened her when he described his desire for her. After Reed is released, more suggestive letters are sent to Ella - did Reed send them? Ella doesn't know what to think - does Reed want to hurt her or does he feel the electricity for her that she feels for him? Besides Reed and Ella's relationship, there are secondary characters that make this a well-rounded and complete story. The question is who framed Reed and there are many suspects which makes the book exciting to the very last page. If you have read another Beverly Barton book, Lone Wolf's Lady, the hero from that book, Luke, also was sent to prison for a crime he didn't commit and he and the heroine work together to solve the mystery. This book also has several "steamy" scenes.

Mixed Feelings,
This review is from: Every Move She Makes (Paperback)
The hero is the most compelling character in this story. Reed Conway was convicted and imprisoned at the age of eighteen for killing his despicable stepfather. A hardened man who comes from the wrong side of the tracks, Reed is determined to clear his name and bring the guilty party to justice. In the small, southern town he grew up in, he faces snobbery and the stigma of being an ex-con. And he falls under the spell of his nemesis's daughter.
Reed's search for the real killer uncovers a long list of suspects who had reason to kill his stepfather, and sets off a slew of crimes designed to frame an innocent man and divert the cop's attention from the real killer. The heroine, a pampered and prissy Ella Porter, is the daughter of the man who put Reed away fifteen years ago. She is as good as a `good girl' can be. Her adoptive mother has been good to her, but never praises her, while her adoptive father thinks the world revolves around her. Ella desperately tries to please both her parents, which means staying away from bad boy Reed. Something she's unable to do. The murderer in this book is smart and skillful. The storyline is good. The attraction between the main characters is powerful and the sex scenes are hot. My mixed feelings come from some of the characters (I find them unbelievable) and the things they are able to get away with are a stretch, even in a small southern town. However, this book will keep you guessing and involved and is most definitely worth reading. Shelley Dawn author of Dark Nights and Sweet, Sweet Jessie

It is not a romantic suspense!!!,
This review is from: Every Move She Makes (Paperback)
Dont buy this book, if you are looking forward to a genuine romantic suspense. I dont think the author has even an iota of what romance is as far as this book is concerned. People screwing around with others as if it is their sole work in life, coming up with lame excuses to justify them...God! And as an after thought to make the characters sound sympathetic, they are shown with a fake intent of undying love and care. Basically, romance books are supposed to make you feel good after reading them. This book in turn makes you question about do you really have relationships like this. I sincerely hope the author does not come up with more hare-brained ideas like this in the future.

Good Romance,
By JJC (Las Vegas, Nev) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Every Move She Makes (Paperback)
Beverly Barton is a At writer. I am a huge fan and so far my favorite is Close Enough To Kill. But this one was still good. For me it fell more on the romance side than the suspense. It seemed to have a few different relationships going on in the story and it was nice to see them all tied up in the end. Reed is a ex-con who gets out of prison at the begining of the story for a crime he did'nt commit. His goal is to find out who really killed his stepfather. He becomes involved with Ella throughout the story. Ella is the adopted daughter of the lawyer who put Reed in prison fifteen years ago. I felt the sexual tension with Ella and Reed to be very good. I did'nt think Reed really tried at all to try to clear his name, he kept saying thats what he wanted to do but never did. And Ella seemed a little to straight laced always trying to be the perfect daughter that mid way through the book I am glad to say that she finally stands up for herself and Reed. This book was a little lacking in the suspense part for me but still a great book. I would recommend it highly! Barton never fails to disapoint.
