This review is from: Every Pilgrim's Guide to Engliand's Holy Places (Paperback)
And you will end up going to places and seeing things far from the throngs who are headed for all the fashionable sites listed in most tourist guides. You will also find yourself in a world of peace and calm of another time in buildings and sites built on the idea that we can all be better than we are--even if you don't have a religious bone in your body. My favorite places discussed in the book are Ely Catheral with its magnificent wooden lantern sixty feet across above the transept. Or perhaps you'll prefer Wells Cathedral and the ruins of nearby Glastonbury Abbey. But then the choices are endless with this great guide in hand. Maybe even better is Fountains Abbey on a summer afternoon.
