So Wrong About Women,
By flowergirl2006 (earth) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Every Single Woman's Battle: Guarding Your Heart and Mind Against Sexual and Emotional Compromise (The Every Man Series) Workbook (Paperback)
I've been looking for a book which actually can help women
with sexual temptation, but there are few.I read the book from cover to cover and couldn't find any reference to women having any real sexual desires for men.The theme was about "guarding her emotions" and "not compromising"What??Nothing to help women with actual sexual drive because the writer thinks women don't really have the sexual drive but instead use sex to get what they want.I found the book insulting to women,as though we are all basically prostitutes looking for a hand out in life, emotional fullfillment or love.Giving sex to get love was the theme in a nutshell. If writers want to help women then they have to realize women struggle with the same sexual desire men do,and have a tough time with temptation as well. The catch word is "guarding your heart" They never mentioned sexual desire and how difficult it is to controll desire for men.

Another Valuable Read About the Battles We Face,
By
This review is from: Every Single Woman's Battle: Guarding Your Heart and Mind Against Sexual and Emotional Compromise (The Every Man Series) Workbook (Paperback)
First of all, I would like to extend a heartfelt "Thank you" to Shannon Ethridge and her publisher for sending me a copy of "Every Single Woman's Battle" to review for them. I am truly grateful for this generosity. I really appreciate the time, effort and expense it takes to make a reviewer copy available to me.
Shannon Ethridge has penned a wonderful book that I am proud to pass to my teenage daughter. The title truly says it all: "Every Single Woman's Battle: Guarding Your Heart and Mind Against Sexual and Emotional Compromise". This may be a small volume, but it is a powerful workbook that I confidently believe with strengthen self-esteem so that we recognize who we are in Christ. Once Christ becomes first in our lives, we don't need to be "built up" by the men (or even other women from whom we sought approval) in our lives. Neither do we need to put others in the position to "complete us". That's a lot of pressure. I think this book should be read by every single woman and will offer healing opportunities to every woman who cracks the cover.

Guarding heart,
This review is from: Every Single Woman's Battle: Guarding Your Heart and Mind Against Sexual and Emotional Compromise (The Every Man Series) Workbook (Paperback)
Every Single Woman's Battle by Shannon Ethridge is a workbook companion that includes quotes from Every Man's Battle and Every Woman's Battle.A women's heart matters. The heart acts as an emotional conductor and radiates how you are feeling to every cell in the the body via the heart's electromagnetic field: this energy field can be detected up to 5-10 feet away (heartmath.org). Your heart projects what it is feeling. Every Single Woman's Battle deals with identifying who the battle is with, the truth, taking thoughts captive, guarding your heart, being aware, surrendering, true intimacy, and retreating with the Lord. Proverbs 27:19 says, "As in water face reflects face, So the heart of man reflects man." I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group and was asked to review it on my blog.

Beginning Bible Study for Single Christian Women,
By
This review is from: Every Single Woman's Battle: Guarding Your Heart and Mind Against Sexual and Emotional Compromise (The Every Man Series) Workbook (Paperback)
This book's title struck a chord with me immediately because of the title. I am a single mother, and I know what a battle the mind can be in the area of sexual temptation. After all, since I have been married and have a child, I have had marital sex. It was a part of my life for many years. One of the hardest things about being divorced is giving that up. That is, if you are a Christian woman who wants to follow what the Bible says.
I appreciate the fact that the author of this book truly stressed the importance of keeping your mind pure. Being a woman herself, she understands that sexual temptation really occurs in the mind of a woman. With men, it is mainly visual. While some women might be turned on to men's bodies visually, I believe that if women are honest, they will say that 90 percent of the temptation begins in the mind. I did feel that the author misinterpreted some Scripture passages. Thankfully, the passages that were used in this way did compromise the whole of Scripture nor the author's message. I am glad that she caused me to have look up the original Greek of these passages since I was challenged on what I had always believed. So that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. This book is written to be read along with a small group. I think in that setting, it may be an excellent way of using this book. I would not recommend reading the book by yourself as I did. It was not nearly as interesting. The discussion questions tend to fall flat when it is just one person reading the book. I did feel that the book was a little light on Scripture. I am used to very in-depth Bible studies so this was not necessarily my cup of tea. If you are, however, a Christian single woman who has not ever been involved in a Bible study or any kind, this may just be the study for you. Living as a woman who puts God first.,
This review is from: Every Single Woman's Battle: Guarding Your Heart and Mind Against Sexual and Emotional Compromise (The Every Man Series) Workbook (Paperback)
Shannon Ethridge does a fantastic job at combining excerpts from *Every Woman's Battle* and *Every Man's Battle* to create a new book for single women searching for the knowledge to be completely filled by the Spirit and not compromising emotional and sexual purity. She sets up this book in a workbook form in order to help the reader interact better with the book and to help the reader process what she is reading and learning throughout the course of this book. Ethridge uses stories from the other two books mentioned above to set the stage for what she wants her readers to get out of each chapter. Following each set of stories and analogies, there are questions to help process the previous information.
Each chapter focuses on a new topic regarding intimacy and giving your heart fully to God in the process of being single. Some topics include taking thoughts captive, guarding your heart, being aware of yourself and emotional integrity, and surrendering yourself to God. Each chapter has a few different sections: planting good seeds (personally seeking God's truth), weeding out deception (recognizing the truth), harvesting fulfillment (applying the truth), and growing together (questions and answers you can share with a small group). This layout of the book helps the reader to take the time she needs to fully process what she is learning. This book is definitely worth the read if you want to focus on having healthy relationships and guarding your heart.

Every Single Woman's Battle by Shannon Ethridge,
This review is from: Every Single Woman's Battle: Guarding Your Heart and Mind Against Sexual and Emotional Compromise (The Every Man Series) Workbook (Paperback)
I haven't read Every Single Woman's Battle, but after going through this workbook, I want to. You can study this without the book, but I personally would like to read the book for more details on the issues discussed in the workbook. However, the workbook gives you a lot to think about, and the questions are not so theologically deep you get bogged down. They do make you think, though, about what kind of body do you want to present to God and what kind of woman do you want to be.
The format for each paragraph is simple - introduction, Planting Good Seeds, Weeding Out Deceptions, Harvesting Fulfillment, Growing Together and a final prayer - with questions to think about and/or discuss in each area. This workbook is great for individual or group study. This workbook is not just about the physical act of sex, but also about living a "life of balance and integrity spiritually, emotional, mental and physical." What I learned the most was that marriage is not the end of this battle. The rules might change, but the battle for sexual purity and a life of balance and integrity is still there, and the price of failure is high. I would believe this workbook can be a valuable tool for our church youth groups and single women's groups to teach their students how to be women of God. Check out shannonethridge.com for more information about this workbook and other books she has written (which I now have on my to be read list). Every Single Woman's Battle,
This review is from: Every Single Woman's Battle: Guarding Your Heart and Mind Against Sexual and Emotional Compromise (The Every Man Series) Workbook (Paperback)
In Shannon Ethridge's latest book, "Every Single Woman's Battle," she uncovers the veil of sexual integrity for all single women no matter why they are single. In her introduction she says, "Living a life sexual integrity as a single woman is so much more than refraining from intercourse." That is the building block that her entire study guide is based on. Each of the eight chapters cover everything from the battle within, to guarding your heart, and retreating with the Lord. The book does have eight chapters that can easily be covered in eight weeks. If this book is used in a small group setting each member could use the companion book on its own.
Each chapter is covered with scripture and excerpts from other books Shannon Ethridge has written. As candid as the author is throughout the book she is equally compassionate and insightful regarding the sensitive nature of this topic. She reminds me of that one friend everyone has (or should have) in their life that loves them so much they ask the tough questions but they love you enough to hug you after you answer. Thank you to Blogging for Books for a complimentary copy of this book for reviewing purposes.

This review is from: Every Single Woman's Battle: Guarding Your Heart and Mind Against Sexual and Emotional Compromise (The Every Man Series) Workbook (Paperback)
Are you guarding your heart and mind from affairs? This book will help you understand that, while men are more physical, women are more mental and emotional beings. You may not realize that you are destroying your relationships because in your heart and mind you are fantasising about other men.
This book is a great self help tool and devotional. You will be asked many questions and if you answer honestly you may be surprised by your answers. This is a great book for personal study if you take the time to really think about the questions and your honest answers. I really learned more about myself from reading this book and i would suggest this book to any woman who is having a difficult time in her faith and her life. I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review. |
