5.0 out of 5 stars Strong first single from a new era of Coldplay June 3, 2011
By now I should know to expect to have no idea what to expect from Coldplay. Each album is a progression from the previous, and this single seems to hint at the new direction they'll be taking for their upcoming 5th studio album, rumored to be released in October. This is an interesting choice for a first single--far more upbeat than Viva La Vida's grungy first single, Violet Hill, and the more ethereal Speed of Sound from X&Y. While ETIAW will certainly feel at home in any modern playlist, and is a great song to kick off summer (even if it's not quite as infectious as Viva La Vida was a couple summers ago), there are also certain elements that are reminiscent of the late 70s-early 80s -- more Duran Duran than U2, in my opinion. In any event, it's a solid intro to the new(est) Coldplay sound, and hopefully is an accurate indication of things to come from their soon-to-be-released LP.

4.0 out of 5 stars I like it. June 6, 2011
Great stuff. I am a sucker for music that builds to a giant wall of sound. I hate the cover, the lyrics are a bit tepid, but I can see myself getting into this one live. As far as this sounding like U2 -- would you rather they try and sound like Twisted Sister. I always laugh at people who get mad at bands for imitating good bands. Having said that, I have only thought they ripped off U2 directly and that was with Life in Technicolor with the "waohs" in the chorus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it! June 23, 2011
By mkstein
Ever since Coldplay came out, I've felt they sounded like U2, but I also thought Verve Pipe did too, and in my opinion, if a song sounds good, I'll listen to it. I don't really care who sings it. I heard this on the radio the other day and came here to buy it after only hearing it once because I thought it had an infectios beat and toe-tapping rhythm. When a song is on the radio, I can't see who is singing - is it Madonna or Lady Gaga? U2 or Coldplay? If I like the song, that's all that matters to me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Every teardrop is a rainbow March 17, 2012
Coldplay's "Every teardrop is a waterfall" is an electrifying new song. After the Velveeta cheesiness of Viva La Vida, this song is a relief. It's kind of a U2 knock-off, but it WORKS. It's better than the lacklusteriness of some of Coldplay's recent songs;it's got some great guitar work, and Chris Martin is inspiring rather than whiny. The waterfall is a rainbow, a spectrum of sound!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not liking where Coldplay's style is heading July 12, 2011

I'm a huge fan of Coldplay's first three ablums. Parachutes is my fav, and X&Y seemed to be the perfect balance of Coldplay's original sound and their new sound that they have today.
For me, and it's just MY opinion, Every Teardrop is not good Coldplay music.

Not being a Coldplay fan myself, I heard this song on the radio and had to buy it. The song is great to workout to at the gym.
