5.0 out of 5 stars Another GREAT Karen Kingsbury novel!
A few weeks ago, Zondervan sent me an advance reader's copy of Karen Kingsbury's new novel, Every Now & Then. I'm a huge fan of Karen's writing and love to read, so I couldn't wait to dive into her latest book. I have to say, I was not disappointed.

The main character, Alex Brady, lost his father on September 11th, a day that many of us wish we could forget...

5.0 out of 5 stars Another GREAT Karen Kingsbury novel!, December 1, 2008

A few weeks ago, Zondervan sent me an advance reader's copy of Karen Kingsbury's new novel, Every Now & Then. I'm a huge fan of Karen's writing and love to read, so I couldn't wait to dive into her latest book. I have to say, I was not disappointed.

The main character, Alex Brady, lost his father on September 11th, a day that many of us wish we could forget. The reality, however, is that what happened seven years ago still affects many people in our world today. They remain trapped in their pain and grief, leaving them unable to move past the devastating losses they experienced that tragic day.

In the book, Alex's mother commented that she didn't only lose a husband that day, she also lost a son. The victims of 9/11 go far beyond those who lost their lives and it's important for the rest of us to remain sensitive to those who are still struggling.

I hope this book will find its way into the hands of those needing a gentle nudge towards fully embracing their grief and finding the healing they desperately need and deserve.

It's important to note that none of Karen's books are offensive when it comes to faith. Her stories are filled with grace and are sure to be enjoyed by all readers. I would not hesitate to recommend this book to someone who is not a Christian knowing they will not only enjoy the story, but be touched by it as well.

While the story and characters are not real, there's a reason why Karen calls her writing ministry Life Changing Fiction(TM). The lessons and healing the characters find in her books are easily applied to our own personal lives.

Karen Kingsbury is an incredibly gifted author and her books are sure to be a blessing to those who invest their time and money into reading her well-written novels.

I am thoroughly impressed by the author's ability to make her characters come to life. They are so believable, they pull you into the story before you realize what's happened.

The only thing I struggled with while reading the book was the amount of detail included in the second chapter. Perhaps it was me, but I found myself on sensory overload trying to process all of the information. I think I would have preferred to have the characters introduced individually, rather than all at once.

That said, once I got past Chapter 2, I was unable to put the book down and thoroughly enjoyed reading the rest of the story. I finished the book in less than two days. :-) Need I say more?

If you're looking for a good book to cozy down with in front of a blazing fire, or perhaps something to stick in a loved one's stocking this year, I highly recommend Every Now & Then. You won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars EVERY NOW & THEN, January 22, 2009
By
EVERY NOW & THEN, is the third book in the 9/11 series. It follows Alex Brady, the surviving son of a New York firefighter. Alex's world stopped the day his father died. Feeling the need to rid the world of evil, he moves to California and becomes a K-9 officer for the LAPD. Breaking off his relationship with the only girl he ever loved, and distancing himself from his mother who has remarried, Alex has a single focus in life - not to allow the likes of 9/11 ever to happen again.
When an environmental terrorist group makes it known they will use arson and the fire season in L.A. to make their point about over developing the land, Alex decides to go undercover and infiltrate the organization to find out what their next target is. Alex's buddies on the force realize Alex is an emotional ticking bomb ready to go off, but they can't seem to get through to him. When Jamie Michaels - the wife of one of Alex's officer buddies - sees his pain, she decides to tell him how she herself was affected by 9/11. Jamie also goes in search of the woman Alex left behind, hoping to get a better picture of who Alex was before his father's tragic death. But time is running out. With the next target chosen by the terrorist, both Alex and Holly Brooks - the girl he left behind - could become the next victims of the REA terrorist group.
EVERY NOW & THEN was good, but I have to say, I don't think it parallels Karen Kingsbury's previous works. The book seems to travel at a nonchalant pace. I never found myself glued to it like other Kingsbury books. We know early on where the terrorist will strike next and who will be affected by it, which made for the actual attack to be a little anticlimactic. Though one shocker did pull from me the emotion I've come to associate with Karen's books, it was the only time I really felt connected to the story.
I still enjoyed EVERY NOW & THEN, and the way it tied in characters from the previous books, it just wasn't the page turner I thought it would be.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not her best, December 29, 2009
I've read quite a few of Karen Kingsbury's books and have never been disappointed. This book is very good with really strong scriptual messages that we can all learn from. But it didn't grab me from the first page like many of her books have done before. It took about 1/2 the book before I got the "oh my, I can't put this down" feeling. I appreciated having closure to the 9/11 series, but in my opinion, the other two books were stronger.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the series!, March 14, 2011
I loved the first two, although not very realistic. This one was by far my favorite. It does have a whole new character and not much to do with the first two but I loved it. Had more "action" than most of Karen's books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great ending to a three book series., November 27, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This three book series was one of the best I have ever read. The story line keeps you so looking forward to what is coming next, that it's hard to put the book down. You feel like you really know the characters. You feel the pain and joy that they experience. What a talent Karen Kingsbury has. I love all of her books I've read.
