I have a problem. I'm a readaholic. Once I start a book, I just have to finish it. Of the thousands of books I've read over my life, I can probably count the ones I couldn't finish on two hands. I did finish "Every Time We Kiss" by Christie Kelley. But it also became a struggle at times. I think my problem stemmed mainly from my dislike of the heroine and the horrible sense of selfishness I felt from her actions.

Lady Jennette has been in mourning for five long years since the death of her fiance. Her outward mourning is really more of a cover for her sense of guilt over his death...and her attraction to his best friend. Although a beauty, she's decided she doesn't deserve happiness and therefore has vowed not to marry.

Matthew is the newly ascended Earl of Blackburn. For five years he has been reviled by the ton for unintentionally killing his best friend, Jennette's fiance. Unfortunately for him, the title doesn't come with the necessary funds to keep his tenants and estates viable so he must marry for money. Of course, trying to marry anyone while being considered a black sheep tends to be a bit difficult so he throws himself on Jennette's mercy and asks her to help him find a suitable bride or marry him herself. Truly the actions of a scoundrel!

Let me be honest here. Jennette was a selfish twit and Matthew was either very stupid or a saint. I just could NOT 'buy' this plot. BOTH of them suffering for five long years for something that could have been cleared up fairly easily. They had such a strong attraction for each other that they could only stay apart by never seeing each other so I guess that's one reason for all the angst in the plot, but it was just too much for me.

"Every Time We Kiss" is a fairly quick read. If you enjoy the long-suffering hero type and the helplessly virtuous victim heroine...then you'll really enjoy Christie Kelley's story. I like her writing style, but this plot just about did me in!

This was great novel - Matthew is broke and now the new Earl of Blackburn. He was has been in love with his bestfriend's fiance but after a terrible death of his friend everything change. Everyone in the Ton thinks that Matthew killed his friend, but he knows the truth. Now years later is asking Lady Jennette to either find him a wife or become his wife - to save his estate. I love the chemistry with character...and great side stories.

If you enjoy this genre I would also suggest; Every Night I'm Yours (Zebra Historical Romance) , As Luck Would Have It (Leisure Historical Romance), Too Hot For A Spy (Zebra Debut).

I could not put this book down. Filled with characters I really cared about, poignant situations (relieved with a little timely humor) and an attraction between the hero and heroine that just leapt off the page, "Every Time We Kiss" kept me absolutely riveted. Yes, this a romance and we all know romances are supposed to have a happy ending, but the story kept me in suspense up until the last page. A wonderful piece of storytelling. I can't wait for the next book in this series!
