great mix of rockers & ballads,
By Nick Young (Illinois) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Every Turn of the World (Audio CD)
After winning (a then record) five grammys for his 1980 debut, Cross' popularity wained... (sniff). He had a few more hits from his second album in 1983. "Every Turn..." is not as strong an album in terms of consistency, but that is only because "Another Page" is nigh perfect.
Cross returns playing killer lead guitar solos on this album. His solo on the opening track is excellent and shows what a complete talent he is. His high tenor voice sounds strong as ever, and his writing remains top notch. In my opinion (I am only a music fan who primarily looks for melody in music, which is mostly absent today) eight of the ten tracks on this album are great tunes. A couple songs are weak: track #3: "I Hear You Call" and track #7: "Swing Street." Seven of the ten songs are uptempo or midtempo rockers, while the remaining three are among his best ballads ever! Especially "Love Found a Home." At first I did not care for "Charm The Snake" but it grew on me because of the inspiring lyrics. I like this album as much as any of today's music (I grew up in the 1980's) so if you like melodic rock mixed with a few love ballads, this is a must listen. ( the Enuff Z'nuff album "?" is also a must!!)

Underrated Cross Effort,
By Sing Brotha Sing (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Every Turn of the World (Audio CD)
Overlooked and underrated Cross effort from 1985 that features a mix of rock tunes, love tunes, and is, generally, a branch-off from his first two releases. If you enjoy Cross's unique sound and his underrated songwriting talent, you will definitely enjoy this album. Standout cuts are "That Girl", the title track, "Love is Love", and "Charm the Snake".
