Book Description

Forget what magazines and movies say men should know about women. And forget the rules.

Sylvia D. Lucas, in "What Every Woman Wishes Modern Men Knew About Women," challenges the games, the rules, and any other recommended adherence to fifties-era stereotypes in this reveal of what real, modern men should know about real, modern women. #1: We don't want to carry your underwear.

4.0 out of 5 stars Makes a great gift for any man. January 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
After reading WEWWMDNAW, I felt like I had just hung out with a girlfriend and shared our views on relationships between men and women. Much of what is written in the book seems obvious and logical to me now, in my 40's, but would have been revelational in my 20's and even into my 30's. However, the intended audience of this book is men of any age. It is not condescending toward men, nor sexist. The tone is matter-of-fact and implies that the writer is offering insight, not the one definitive position on male and female relations. this book is a good read for any man who cares enough about his current or future partner to wish to gain even a grain of insight. Quick, light read that delivers a valuable message for men in a nonthreatening way.

4.0 out of 5 stars Old Dog Learns New Tricks January 28, 2012
By Martin
Format:Paperback
What an enjoyable, lighthearted adventure through the miscommunications that are human beings.

It taught this old dog some new tricks as well so, for that, I'm grateful. (and when I say `tricks', I DO mean understanding :))

Interestingly enough, it's an eye-opener for women too. Just what they might be mucking up in how they talk to their partners as well as their partners understanding when they themselves might be being `played' by a potentially manipulative women - I wonder how many of those are out there?

4.0 out of 5 stars Read this book because a friend recommended it.. February 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This book is a revelation, and at last, finally an entry in this genre that doesn't take sides.

A lot of these books read as if the author is crying foul for personal grievances rather than trying to educate the reader. In my opinion, female writers often seem to find this sort of book as a chance to point fingers or nag men by making broad spectrum criticisms and accusations about our collective state of mind. Male writers seem to be using the genre as a mechanism to 'outwit and outsmart' female dating strategies by overpowering them with complex counter-strategies. The 'hunter and the hunted' perspective so many men write about is no better than the 'nagging mother' aspect a lot of female authors seem to advocate. Ms. Lucas advocating approaching from the context of equality- truly of equal worth despite our differences.. is a breath of fresh air.

Men and women are different, and in relationships (depending on how you define them) there are certainly roles to be played. That said, these roles are not suits of armor or cloaks of deception to be worn to 'win' against an opponent. They're complimenting parts to a greater whole. Ms. Lucas focuses on this concept well. She calls on both men and women to step up their self awareness and to stop playing games and get real. Most importantly, she stresses the importance of taking responsibility for one's own actions, and that gender stereotypes do not excuse abusive, manipulative, or childish behavior. Two thumbs up for this one.
