5.0 out of 5 stars Don't think you are alone in your struggle
When I browsed through this book, I knew right away that I would easily relate to it. And the more I read, the more I could not put it down. Shannon Etheridge delivers a very straight forward, loving message about bringing our lives under full submission to God's will and desire. Having been caught up in my own struggle, I didn't think anybody else was dealing with the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Read this book for what it's worth!
I bought this book after reading the back cover, which reads as follows: "When does an affair begin? Not with the first forbiddin touch...but with the first forbiddin thought. Unexpectedly, you find yourself enjoying a powerful emotional bond with another man. You feel like you matter to someone again. And the door you thought was locked so firmly--the door to sexual...

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't think you are alone in your struggle, December 1, 2004
When I browsed through this book, I knew right away that I would easily relate to it. And the more I read, the more I could not put it down. Shannon Etheridge delivers a very straight forward, loving message about bringing our lives under full submission to God's will and desire. Having been caught up in my own struggle, I didn't think anybody else was dealing with the same things I was dealing with. But to read the personal stories that Shannon puts in her book really helped me to stop "beating myself up" and realize that I'm not the only one, and there is a way out. The biggest point that stands out to me is that sexual compromise begins in your mind and/or your heart before it manifests anywhere else in your life.

I highly recommend the workbook, just to be able to put your thoughts out there on paper, rather than just bottled up in your mind. If you don't have anybody else to do the workbook with, do it alone. I am doing it that way. I want all I can get to be whole and become the woman I know God designed me to be, and I'm not going to let anything hinder me from that. Regardless of what you have done or what you have been through, God still wants to use you to bring glory to Him. In fact, he tends to pick out those with a "past", and uses them mightily to bring forth testimony of how good He is. I am looking forward to the WHOLE woman that I am on a journey to becoming, and I am thankful for this book, which changed my life, and started the ball rolling for me.

P.S. I am a single, never-been-married 26-year old woman. This book is for us, too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Helped my marriage, September 19, 2004
I read this book just before my first wedding anniversary, and I seriously applied it to my life. The results are amazing!! I have an intimacy with my husband that I never thought I could have, a better image of myself as a result of it, and the chapter on sabbaticals is awesome!! I go up to Door County WI twice a year now and just enjoy alone time with God. This book is very helpful in making you feel that you're not alone out there, that God does provide an answer to every problem, and that He will never give you more than what you can handle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't pass this one up!, September 12, 2003

Finally, there is a brave Christian woman out there that will talk about this subject! It's about time women get real about their sexual struggles and stop looking for love in all the wrong places. I found this book to be insightful, captivating, and full of practical application. It's thrust is towards personal wholeness and fulfillment... with or without a man! Great stuff!!! Have fun reading about her personal journey told with refreshing honesty.

5.0 out of 5 stars a God-send, January 28, 2004
By A Customer
I didn't want to read this book. Even halfway through I thought this was good info, but not for me to apply right now in my life. I just didn't want to. By the time I got to the end I was deeply thankful and ready to pursue the intimate relationship God wants to have with me above my self-indulgent thought life. I love how she writes - it's so down to earth, uncondemning, and convicting. I'm so bless to have "chanced" upon this read. `Wish more women new about it - we need to address our own purity battle. God really is praised through this book - the Maker of romance, love and true intimacy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Honest approach to women's hearts, February 17, 2004
By
I found this book to be excellent in examining women's hearts. Several times, women's struggle with lust is overlooked or underestimated. The author did a wonderful job in discussing different forms of being unfaithful besides physically, such as emotionally. I highly recommend this book to women who are married or in relationships. It vaguely discusses subjects for single women, but not clearly enough to really be able to understand where boundaries need to be drawn. I would also advise that single women struggling with lust, avoid reading chapter 10. Although it may be helpful when you are married, reading descriptions about God's glorious plan of sex isn't helpful for someone who is trying to overcome lust. Overall, the book was well written from a female perspective and contains a lot of helpful information for understanding yourself and significant other.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must-read!, August 24, 2003

I haven't finished the book yet, but it is an awesome book! Ethridge recognizes the fact that women also struggle with sexual integrity, and brings into the open many of the secrets that women world-wide have been ashamed to be accountable for.

I appreciate her down-to-earth manner, and she gives many helpful ideas and Biblical counsel on how to overcome sexual temptation. Read the book, if you are struggling, if you know someone who is struggling, or even just for your own furthered knowledge.

I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a book for woman on this topic!!, December 27, 2004
I have read this book a few times, have lent it out and just bought a copy for my step mother for christmas.
I think it is written from a wonderful, realistic stand point from a REAL christian woman who has been there.
To CC from lvthelrd2000@yahoo.com .... i think your review was very stereotypical of re born christians and I found it to be offensive. I do agree that we, as woman, do tend to hide our problems from others but I do not agree that ALL christians are as judgemental as the ones that perhaps you have come across. I do pray that you will find your way and this book continues to reach woman who are in need of a way out.

5.0 out of 5 stars A tool for battle., October 8, 2005

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book is a must read for every woman. Mrs. Etheridge deals with an area that is seldom talked about, but often experienced. Women are tempted just as much as men when it comes to infidelity, but the temptation and sin usually come in much different forms. Often they are not recognized as such. Etheridge lays these temptations and sins out on the table and gives tools for both recognizing and combating them. Women who desire to live with integrity in their thoughts, emotions, and actions will find this book to be a valuable tool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Positive, October 6, 2005
I know if you've gotten to my review you've noticed the very mixed reviews on this book. I can only give you my experiences with this book. I am going through this book as part of a small group and find what it has to say pretty much right on target. It has really helped each woman in our group take a good look at our lives and re-examine how we view our relationships or the relationships we want. I believe this book speaks to many of my spiritual challenges and God is using it powerfully to help me make changes in my life.

Understanding that I am not the only woman to experience these thoughts and feelings has helped me feel better about myself. There are some really good lists throughout this book that offer practicals to some of life's every day challenges.

Hope this helps. By the way my perspective comes from the single woman, who's had past relationships she's not proud of.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must read for all woman., November 28, 2007

Scott Knudsen (Air Ronge, Saskatchewan Canada) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Having read Stephen Arterburn's book, Every Man's Battle, I thought I would read this book to see what I could learn from it.

As for the men, you will probably not learn anything more out of this book if you have already ready Every Man's Battle. And for women, all I can say is wow, all women should be given this book at a young age to read.

This book can help one understand the what and why's of what is happening when it comes to sexual and emotional fulfillment in relationships, and what can be done to deal with it.

Yes, I somewhat agree with the other reviewers that complain about the book not talking enough about woman who have as strong a sex drive as men, but I don't think it was right for them to rate this book so low for that one point.

I highly recommend all woman buy it, and also make sure your Church library has one.
