Review

Praise for Every Woman’s Marriage

“Finally! An insightful and frank discussion about the perspectives, expectations, and behaviors that impair marital relationships. With Shannon’s expertise on sexual and emotional integrity and Greg’s male perspective, Every Woman’s Marriage offers practical guidance for reigniting the intimacy and passion every woman longs for.”
–Ginger Kolbaba, managing editor of Marriage Partnership magazine and author of Surprised by Remarriage

Praise for Every Woman’s Battle

“This book sheds light on the often unspoken sensitivities and issues that women wrestle with. Not only is it well written, it is liberating and refreshing with sound principles for overcoming the things that threaten to keep us from experiencing the fullness of joy that is part of God’s big-picture plan for our lives.”
–Michelle McKinney Hammond, author of In Search of the Proverbs 31 Man and The Unspoken Rules of Love

“In today’s permissive culture, it’s dangerously easy for even the most principled of women to reason away unhealthy thoughts, attitudes, and flirtations with men who aren’t our husbands. In Every Woman’s Battle, Shannon Ethridge bravely and respectfully draws a line in the sand for all of us. This is a must-read for every woman who desires true intimacy and sexual integrity.”
–Constance Rhodes, author of Life Inside the “Thin” Cage

“There’s a common, almost Victorian, myth that women don’t really struggle with sexual sin. That myth causes many women to feel a double-shame. The shame of struggling sexually is compounded by the assumption that few, if any, women share the same battle. Shannon Ethridge artfully and boldly unveils the war and offers women a way to enter the battle with cou...

5.0 out of 5 stars Shannon's admonition to "guard one's heart" June 5, 2007
Format:Paperback
Bestselling author Shannon Ethridge has teamed up with her husband Greg in this newest installment of the Every Woman's series. In EVERY WOMAN'S MARRIAGE, the authors put in their two cents on a myriad of marital topics, all with a singular goal in mind: that of igniting (and sustaining) joy and passion in marriage. Shannon's plainspoken deliberateness allows female readers the opportunity to study their own spousal relationship with an "insider's" eye.

As the female half of the Ethridge writing duo, Shannon offers scenarios and suggestions for recognizing potential pitfalls, recurring mistakes, and short-circuited communication attempts. Then she presents biblically sound alternatives for wives to begin consistently implementing and focusing on repairing damage already done. On the heels of Shannon's comments, Greg interjects the male's take on the same topic. This alternating presentation is both smooth and effective. Women are not left wondering how men perceive identical scenarios; they are handed them on a platter.

In this five-part marriage handbook, the Ethridges discuss (and dissect) the hows and whys of marriages in which both partners' hearts grow cold, understanding the wisdom of honing a "big picture" view of lifelong relationships, reasons why a man's joy and passions die, specific ways to reignite a husband's flame, and finally, throwing fuel on that flame to keep the momentum going over the long haul of a lifetime commitment.

One reason for Shannon Ethridge's popular appeal to female readers is her willingness to admit candidly past and current struggles. She invites women to stop hiding behind facades and fears and take proper initiative to "grow" a passionate marriage.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book for the right audience July 24, 2007
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I liked this book alot but I would caution that it's for a more conservative Christian typr of person so if you consider yourself a little more liberal just skip this one. If you want to pursue a conservative Christian view of marriage this book couldn't be better. It does stress submission and that can be difficult for some to digest but you have to read it and make it work for you. The idea that working together and working to make your partner happy instead of making yourself happy is the basic idea...of couse its also the basic idea of Christianity so it was pretty much exactly what I expected it to be. Of course I do realize it isnt for everyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book - poor company February 15, 2007
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is awesome! It is straightforward and has very applicable truths. If you are a woman committed to your marriage, this is a great book that lets you know what men really need and how we can give it to them. I immediately began implementing what I was learning into my marriage. Very helpful and an enjoyable read. I would have given 5 stars because the book was awesome, but the company selling it, bookssellbooks I was less than pleased with. They blamed it on the weather, then told me they would send me another book to compensate, but never did so I received the book over a MONTH after I ordered it with no compensation. Also, they rarely respond to emails. So be careful if you are thinking about dealing with them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every Woman's Marriage November 12, 2010
Format:Paperback
I picked this book, Every Woman's Marriage, simply because I want my marriage to be better and so that I can increase my knowledge on how God wants me to be the best wife possible for the man I chose as my husband. Yes, I chose him with God's help. God didn't make me marry him; therefore, I believe that I have the responsibility to create a great home atmosphere and, yes, I believe I need to be a helpmeet for my husband. Shannon has many wise words for us wives but I really enjoyed the chapter "what men (really) want most." Your husband really wants YOUR smiling face . . ."Your husband's greatest desire doesn't revolve around sex, sports, sandwiches, sitcoms, or success, but around your smiling face." It helped me to put our lives in perspective. I've gained some of those unwanted, middle-of-the-mile-pounds so I'm not quite as thin as my wedding photo. I know my husband loves me because he shows me his love by keeping the bills paid, airing the tires on the van, helping me make our bed and putting the dishes away in the dishwasher.
In our society thin is in but does thin always make a great wife? I'm not so sure thin has anything to do with marriage. (shocker, I know!) I enjoyed reading Shannon's short clip of "Wresting the Body Bear Image." Our marriages are not just for us! As Shannon writes at the ending of the book "These principals are the best way to affair-proof and divorce-proof marriages, the best way for families to live in harmony with one another, and the best way for children to grow up in homes where they can learn to respect, love and cherish others, including, some day, their own spouses." I love my husband and now I love him even more! Okay....

More About the Author

Shannon is a million-copy best-selling author, speaker, lay counselor, and advocate for healthy sexuality with a master's degree in counseling/human relations from Liberty University. She has spoken to youth, college students, and adults since 1989 and her passions include: Challenging adults and teens to embrace a life of sexual integrity, encouraging married couples in their pursuit of sexual and emotional fulfillment, counseling women who have looked for love in all the wrong places and equipping parents to instill sexual values in children at an early age.

Her passion for healthy sexuality actually began in mortuary college. Her first career choice, becoming a mortician, led Ethridge to work on dead bodies. Many she embalmed were young people who had died from AIDS or committed suicide as a result an HIV positive diagnosis. Because of her own promiscuous teenage years, she knew it was a miracle that she was standing over the embalming table rather than laying on top of it. These experiences inspired her to begin speaking boldly and bluntly to teen, college-age, and adult audiences about the benefits of sexual integrity. She has taught and counseled thousands of young singles and married couples over the past decade. She is the author of 18 books, including the best-selling Every Woman's Battle series, the 5-book Completely His series, and her new book for the mainstream market, The Sexually Confident Wife.

Shannon has been featured on the cover of Today's Christian Woman Magazinee, and is a frequent guest on international radio & television shows such as The 700 Club, Life Today with James & Betty Robison, FamilyLife Today with Dennis Rainey, and New Life Live! with Stephen Arterburn. She has also been published in numerous magazines such as Focus on the Family, Brio, and LifeWay and is the winner of a Gold Medallion Award for Excellence in Publishing.

Although grateful for the opportunities to influence this generation as a writer and speaker, Shannon remains most passionate about her role as a wife and best friend to her husband of 18 years, Greg, and a mother and cheerleader to their two children, Erin (17) and Matthew (14).
